Blurb: Love can bloom in the most unusual places….

In Wings of Love, Dr. Bradford Mitchell flees to Alaska to escape the devastating memories of his deceased partner, but can he let go of the past soon enough to embrace a future with pilot and friend Mac Cleary? In Treasure of Love, dive master and charter boat captain Jackson Cameron finds himself questioning his sexuality when openly gay treasure hunter Dax Powers hires him, but if they want to keep their new-found treasure, they’ll have to fight to keep the crew safe.

In Bounty of Love, Zander Walsh wakes up from coma only to find his fiancé and parents dead in an apparent robbery gone wrong. FBI Agent Jake Elliot is doing his best to find the murderer, but as the months pass—and unexpected feelings grow between them—it becomes clear that someone is doing their best to keep them from finding the truth.

Finally, in Foundation of Love, co-written with Z.B. Marshall, Wes Stanhope has spent years running from his father’s controlling ways, but when his mother dies, leaving behind one last wish, he finds himself back under his thumb. His attraction to architect Ty Williams—and Ty’s refusal to hide in the closet—just might be enough to make him fight back.

Review: I have never been a fan of anthologies or stories combined into one long novel.  They are always time consuming and drive me nuts.  I like a normal story to read and then put down, but with stories like these it just makes it feel to long with one book.  Now this one is a bit different as the stories are not short stories per say, but normal length.  It still felt like it would never end but was pretty sweet.

The second thing I always noticed is that focus around one person or one place, now at first one would think Alaska but then I realized it was Mac bringing them all together, well sort of.

Wings of Love

Scotty Cade - Wings of Love CoverBrad’s husband died of cancer and it has torn our sexy doctor apart.  He doesn’t want to live with the memories of their times that will be apart.  Two men so deeply in love.  So he heads to the one place they both loved, Alaska, where they both met Mac, a dear friend and pilot.

Mac had lost his wife to cancer three years ago and it had left him alone with his daughter and brother in law.  They had been together for some time but he had promised her to share his love with another.  Don’t think she was thinking another guy though.  Things sure do heat up with these two.

There is just a bit of pain, loss, excitement and danger in this little story.  It is a cute story of love found in the strangest places.  Now I want to give Mac’s brother-in-law a smack upside the head but I got a feeling his time is coming.  It was a joy to read.

Treasure of Love

Scotty Cade - Treasure of Love CoverAs I said Jack’s time will come, and it will come in this story.  Some time has passed since he made an ass of himself with Mac and Brad.  He realized what he has always known; the he himself was attracted to another man.  In this case a treasure hunter who wants to rent his boat.

Dax is very open and out, but he can be a total jerk sometimes though. Dax and his sister are looking for a sunken boat that was said to have large amount of gold from the gold rush in Alaska.  It makes me think of the old song “North to Alaska”, or John Wayne.  These two just seem to heat the sheets and boy pay backs are going to be good.

There is adventure, excitement, danger, and those pay backs in this story.  It was fun to read and I enjoyed the guys quite a bit.  There was even a nice little twist to this story that was a fun add I must say.

Bounty of Love

Scotty Cade - Bounty of Love CoverNow in book one you meet Zander and Jake, the owners of the lodge where Brad was heading.  Well this is their story, and I have to say that with this book being book 3, it made the rest of the stories seem out of order.  Zander and his fiancé, plus his parents were enjoying the final touches right before their wedding.   That is until the next thing Zander knows is waking up in the hospital and his world crashing around him.  His parents and his boyfriend were killed, and FBI Agent Jake wants to find out who was behind it.

Now there are some wicked twists to this story that I had not expected but was a great add.  Those behind the murders and their reasons were a big shock.  I loved these guys and was glad they got their story.  Although this should have been book two.  This is also when you meet Mac and his wife.

Foundation of Love

Scotty Cade - Foundation of Love CoverNow I was wondering how this book fell in with the other three, then I realized that Wes was friends with Brad and in turn you see Mac again.  Those two are still going strong.  Any way Wes’s mother has passed on and a legacy is left behind.  She wanted to have a hospital built and set up, with father and son running it.  Too bad old daddy dearest is a racist and a homophobic asshat.  It puts Wes up against his father one more time.  The architect turns out to be Ty, and damn is the man isn’t hot.  However two things are against him, one he is gay and two he is black, something Wes doesn’t care about.  However daddy will not like it.  I would say time to kick daddy to the curb.

Now this one was pretty good but just a bit boring when considering the other three books.  The only danger came from Wes father, but not physical danger.  However it still rocked the story.

Overall

The stories all were pretty good, but they also felt a bit off.  I think that it was the danger added to each story that did this, especially if you’re going to combine them into one large novel.  If they were to stay separate books then it would not feel this way I suppose.  Other than my issues it still made for one hot and sexy read.  I enjoyed them and would definitely recommend this book.

Review: I have had the pleasure of reading a few of Scotty Cade’s stories and have always been amazed by them.  With this particular story I was at odds with it.  The story is very well written with a lot of depth to it.  However I think it was the actual story line that was a bit twisted for me.  Although it does give me hope about reincarnation.

Theo was the captain of his ship but he had needed a first mate.  One that he could get along with perfectly.  He just had not expected how perfect they would get on.  Then the dreams of a man long gone, showed him just a bit more about just how perfect they are together.  It also explained why he was just not connected with his past wives.

Heath had spent twelve years at sea, but now he wanted a chance at a new life.  One that still involved with the sea, but in a different way.  The moment he saw his new captain, he thought he knew the man.  Then the dreams started and it led him to the answers.

I would say that this story definitely had a touch of the supernatural world going on. Although I do have to say that I absolutely hated the ending.  I think I could have done without it.  Other than that this story was a blast to read, if not a little too slow paced for me.  Georgia was a big hit along with her husband.  I do have to admit though that at some parts of the story, I just skimmed over it.  It just felt a little drawn out in some spots which is not a good thing for me.  However I still enjoyed the story and look forward to reading more by this amazing author.

Review: Book three in the Bissonet & Cruz Investigations draws the reader into unresolved issues between Tollison and Bastien as well as Bruce and Beau. On top of that there is a killer targeting gay men at Mardi Gras parades.

The suspense and drama are a match made in heaven in this story. The unresolved issues between the four men start taking its toll on them. Even though there is anger and resentment at times I was glad they all talked at least. I really liked Bruce and Bastien as a couple. Even with Bruce’ uncertainty about the relationship both men deserved happiness after their failed previous relationships.

The mystery aspect of the book was good. I liked the way the investigation was handled and every lead looked into thoroughly. Auggie, Tollison and Bruce work well together throughout the investigation and have each other’s back.

This is a fantastic addition to the series. I highly recommend it.

Review: This is book two in the Bissonet & Cruz Investigations series. Beau and Tollison have opened their business; it’s almost Halloween, Beau’s favorite holiday. Beau is excited and things are going well for the two men until Tollison’s ex comes back in the picture. Beau’s trust issues are put to the test as result of Tollison’s ex.

Bastien, Tollison’s ex is kidnapped and the investigative team rush to find out why and rescue him. Action packed, edge of your seat read. The mystery was well written and had the right amount of suspense and investigation to leave me waiting for more as the story progressed.

Beau and Tollison heat up the pages and work well together throughout. I really liked this story as it had all the right elements for a great mystery. It keeps the reader engaged while providing enough information to have them wanting more.

Fantastic addition and read to the series.

Review: I was just going through the review list when I saw the author’s name on this and wanted to read his latest book. I hadn’t seen the cover nor had I read the blurb, so imagine my surprise when I realized that it had a religious tone to it. I have never liked anything that had priest or pastors in it, so I wasn’t sure if I wanted to even take a look at the first page. However I knew that Scotty Cade’s stories always had a flair to them that would intrigue me enough to keep my attention.

Now to my surprise I was captivated with the first paragraph and knew that I wanted to continue to read it. Although I still have a hatred for anything Southern Baptist. I had not known that Episcopal churches were so open, but it was a nice find.

There is a bit of humor in such a serious and painful story. It makes for a better read in my mind. This story was fully developed and the characters were beautifully written. It also showed Abel’s reaction perfectly. It showed him just as flawed as the rest, and gave him a better feel for me. Cullen was a major hit to me since the first paragraph.

Cullen had been married to Cole for over nine years and missed him every day. He felt angry at his god and had decided to take a break from being a priest. He had taken the boat that was his and Cole’s to come to terms with the loss of the man he loved more than life itself. He had decided to go back to a town that they had visited not so long ago. It brought him to a man who might just need him, just as bad as he needed someone himself.

Abel was a Southern Baptist preacher who had a big secret. He was fighting daily to come to his final decision. He had much to think about and it had brought him a man who had lost so much, but wanted to help him in his. It would lead them to a new life that would bring light to their hearts and souls.

Now I am still not sure about books with religion in them, but for once this one actually rocked. I enjoyed it quite a bit, however great the story was I am afraid though that it would not be one that I would read a second time. That is not saying that I didn’t love the guys just as much as their story, but it still gave me the creeps in a way. I loved how the guys realized that in a way their god was showing them a new direction to take.

I did enjoy the story and would definitely recommend it.

Blurb: Angus Conrad (Gus) McRae is a privileged Charlestonian following family tradition and attending the Citadel, harboring big dreams of a military career. Then a sudden dorm reassignment lands him with a roommate in the form of one of the football team’s top players—working-class jock Stewart Adam (Sam) Morley—and life gets increasingly complicated.

Gus can’t imagine a man like Sam as gay, yet there’s something between them—exchanged glances, the occasional innuendo. Sexual tensions rise, leaving them more than friends but less than lovers. Gus and Sam know there’s too much to lose and they must keep their attraction hidden.

Review: Knobs (get the dick jokes out of your head now, it’s not that) is the type story that is for people that enjoy a bit of young adult/college and want to mix it with military-style/military school action.

That’s pretty much the book in a nutshell.

The story follows Gus (Angus) and Sam (Stewart), who are new cadets to the prestigious Charleston military academy, the Citadel. For those of us not in the know (mostly those of us who aren’t American), the Citadel is a very real military college.

Sam is going to the Citadel on a full football scholarship as he comes from a very poor single-parent family. He has spent much of his childhood helping his mother raise his younger siblings. Gus is the complete opposite, he is from a rich family – his father and grandfather both attended the Citadel. He is less than enthusiastic about going to the Citadel but is determined to make it work.

The guys make it through their first week alone before a change in room assignment has them as roommates. The guys are like chalk and cheese. It does help that Sam is intent on judging Gus as a rich prick before getting to know him. But things change and epiphanies happen. Being gay, they have to make sure that their secret doesn’t come out to the rest of the school. Sam also needs to get over feelings of being a “charity case”.

This is a really enjoyable story about two guys that need to find themselves as well as work out their relationship in a confining environment where they cannot be themselves. It is full of heart and the characters develop really well throughout the story. Although I would say that there is a lot more room for development. These guys are complex.

I’m not sure if Scotty Cade has more in mind for these guys, but I would read a sequel for Sam and Gus in a heartbeat.

Review: After the Final Encore is the third book in Scotty Cade’s Encore series. While the prequel book (Before the Final Encore) can be missed, to read this one you need to have at least read the Final Encore.

After the Final Encore picks up the story of lovers Ian and Billy 5 years after the Final Encore, where Billy’s country singing career seems to know no bounds and Ian is not only his dearest friend and lover, but also Billy’s manager. Ian and Billy are still wonderful characters and the chemistry between them is still there. There are also a few familiar minor characters readers will recognise even though this book is completely Ian and Billy.

After being together for 5 years, the very private lovers who both work within the cut throat business of Nashville face the scandal of being outed. This is where I was a bit non-plussed by the plot because it started as the guys trying to deal with the fall out (and doing admirably well, I also liked the touches of dialogues of when they went to LA to do some PR), and then we are faced with a blast from the past that isn’t so pleasant.

In the end, it’s nice to revisit the guys. Like the previous book, this isn’t the type of book that you sit back and psychoanalyse; simply enjoy it for what it is. The guys still have the sizzle between them and their characters are also relatable, despite one being a country singer super star. What else could we want other than two hot southern boys making their way together and through life? The drama also helps a lot as well.

Blurb: Leeland Jeffers is a contented single man with a thriving career in Atlanta. He’s had a few unsuccessful relationships over the years, but no one has even come close to his first love, Harrison Rhinehart. They met in college when a mutual friend, Suzie Garrison, introduced Harry into their close-knit group.

When the supposedly “straight” Harry made a move on Lee, the two men entered into a tumultuous secret love affair. In their senior year, the relationship finally ended when Harry informed Lee he was marrying Suzie.

Since graduation, the college friends have drifted apart. However, an unexpected invitation to a destination wedding seems set to reunite them all. Lee’s speculation on whether Harry and Suzie will make an appearance threatens to derail his attendance.

But Lee decides the hell with it and makes plans to go, Harry Rhinehart or no Harry Rhinehart.

Review: I always look forward to any book written by Scotty Cade, he quickly has become one of my favourite go-to authors – to date I’ve not been outright bored or just hated any story that I’ve read of his.

That being said, although this is not my favourite of his, it’s still a good read and chock-full of emotion. I’ve now decided that the reason for this is that there is more angst than I prefer in most stories (too much angst bores me to tears), so I’ve decided to bump the rating up a bit higher because I know that is just me.

The story is told by Leeland Jeffers, Lee, for the most part. He likes to think that he is happy in both his personal and professional life, though he does not have any long-term boyfriend. Meeting with Harrison, his college boyfriend, stirs up a lot of uncertain feelings. In college their relationship had been secret but the attraction was dynamite.

Harrison Rhineheart broke Lee’s heart in senior year college when he left Lee to marry their friend, Suzie (who is also clearly a woman). Harrison has a lot of grovelling to do to get his life back in order. Unlike Leeland, his personal life is a mess, albeit one that he created himself over the years.

All this culminates in a story about reconnection between two guys who have some fantastic chemistry. However, there is a lot more that was crammed into it too: closeted vs. openly gay men, emotionally dealing with both of these, love and fidelity.

There is also the very real thing that everyone can relate to – your group of high school/university/college friends drifting apart and somehow reconnecting with them years later.

Portia’s Two Cents: As much as I LOVE Scotty Cade, I’ve got to agree with Prime on this one.  Definitely not my favorite.  If Scotty ever reprints this, I’d wish for about a hundred more pages.  All of Harry begging for forgiveness and kissing Lee’s ass.

Review: This is a quick story that covers the vague background we are given in the book, Final Encore by Scotty Cade, about main character, Ian Dillon. It leaves me to wonder why Final Encore was not revised and this background somehow incorporated before it had been released as a second edition. My mixed feelings are really because the only reason to read this story is if you have not read or intend to read Final Encore.

All that aside, it’s nice to have Ian’s background in a bit more detail. Ian is such a sweet guy and it’s nice to find out what kind of “kid” (well, young man, he is 21 years old) how he became the person that he is in Final Encore.

I recommend reading this after reading Final Encore (not what I did), because I only appreciated this story after reading the novel.

Review: This is one very sweet book with a couple of very sweet characters, which is a bit of a departure from my current reading where there is usually one take charge alpha and one is just a sweet guy. If you’ve read Ian’s back story in Before the Final Encore things have fallen into place. If you haven’t read Ian’s back story, go back and read. It isn’t much but it does help place things better in your mind and you will probably appreciate it more than reading it first.

Anyway, back to Final Encore.

Billy is everything you could want – a country singer who also works as a foreman. Going to an open mic night then rapidly changes his life, introducing Ian into his life, once he had been down on his luck but now is a successful country music talent scout.

Ian and Billy are wonderful characters, great even. To me they were relatable and so it was easy to feel everything, and sympathise with both of them though at one point it was clear Ian was making a big mistake! I also love minor characters Jules and Jean who play a big part in men’s lives, Ian’s more so.

Though honestly, I would have loved to find out more about their son. Another, thing I would like to point out is that the final piece drama just happened – I thought there could have been more lead-up to that.

This is more a bit of fun – injected with some sexiness and some drama – don’t take it too seriously. I cannot wait for the next book (After the Final Encore)!
