Blurb: The werewolf said, “Race you to the road.” It was the last thing Tovin heard before his life became uncomfortably complex.

Before that night in the forest, Tovin was the type of guy to play it safe. Happy wearing the same shoes, buying the same deodorant, and eating the same meals day after day, he thought his simple existence was pretty great. At least until his boyfriend dumps him for being boring. Heartbroken but on a mission of vengeance, Tovin decides to start a new life filled with excitement, danger, and maybe a meal from a questionable food truck.

A date with Garvey would start it all. Handsome, sophisticated, the man is everything Tovin thinks he needs. It’s a pity he turns out to be a werewolf on a mission to save his pack from destruction.

Now Tovin is caught up in Garvey’s world.

Abducted and forced to be the bloodservant of a powerful Alpha, he lands right in the middle of a brewing conflict that threatens to destroy humanity.

Review: I really wanted to love this I truly did as the blurb was enticing. Alas I did not. I felt like I was disconnected throughout the story. I did not connect any of the characters at all.

The first problem I saw was there were too many characters introduced that resulted in the main plot being pushed back again and again. Garvey’s character irritated me in that he constantly drilled the point that he wanted the reader to know how much he loved to eat humans. I got that from the introduction which was a little too much.

Tovin is sweet yet naive at times. I wanted to slap him at times and say are you kidding me. Surely you can’t be that blind to things.

Then there was the hierarchy which was very confusing to say the least. I honestly gave up trying to understand what was what halfway through. I think there was too much information thrown into this one book for the reader to process thoroughly. As a result you feel bogged down.

Sorry, but I did not enjoy this book.

Blurb: Four stories of sex, romance, and college boys learning to kneel.

Hitachi is a police officer reduced to being a glorified babysitter for a rich man’s son. He resents his assignment, but Gabriel isn’t the brat Hitachi believes he is. He’s a man who likes pain, and who wants Hitachi to let loose with him too.

Leo fantasizes about having sex with a complete stranger, but when he gets his chance it isn’t nearly as wonderful as he imagined it to be. His dad’s boss tries to teach him a lesson about making stupid choices, but his education in submission doesn’t end there.

Jensen is horrible at math, and now he’s in a calculus class that he’s barely getting through. His parents get him a tutor, but this tutor is interested in teaching Jensen about far more than just math.

Timothy comes back home, to a tiny town he can’t stand, when his mother’s illness gets worse. He’s made a string of bad decisions, and his mother’s friend is determined to turn his life around before Timothy gets lost entirely.

Review: I love this author’s work, but I really struggled with these four in one stories. The blurb is what got me to choose this story. Yes, there is intense sex scenes, but the stories are just so unbelievable. Jensen goes to be tutored in Mathematics, because he’s very bad at the subject, and within less than half hour, he has a safe word and he’s in a Play room, being spanked and then have sex with his tutor.

Hitachi has been sent on assignment to pick up someone from the airport, who he’s never met before, and to drive him home. He’s invited inside, and Gabriel quickly starts playing with him, and they role play, and have sex.

Leo has always fantasized about hooking up and having sex with a stranger. He organizes a hook up and goes to this guy’s house, without knowing who the guy is. He is given instructions on what will happen between them. He gets treated roughly with vigorous sex, and then after, the guy reveals himself and it’s his Dad’s boss. He treats Leo like crap, and tells him that he’s teaching him a lesion.

With Timothy, he left his hometown as fast as he could when he was eighteen, but now he has returned home after his mom’s illness have gotten worse. He goes to a bar to relax and they he’s approached by someone, who invites him to a rodeo. He goes to the location, and he’s brutally beaten, he’s rescued by the owner of the building, and then they have sex. The only difference in all of these stories is that Timothy is the only one in his right mind to ask about protection before sex.

I love this author’s stories, but I won’t be recommending this one to anyone.

Review: It has been several months since I read the first book in this series, so it was like a new experience for me.  This particular story is about the two main characters in book one and where they are now that Ben is not a vampire any longer.  When I read the blurb, it said recovering vampire, but in truth he is now human once more.  The characters are a bit off to me, but still pretty sweet.  In this story you find out more about Nate and let’s just say it is one big surprise.

Nate has talked Ben into coming back to his home town with him.  It is supposed to give him a break from what he had known before.  Ben gets to meet Nate’s brother Ethan and their mom.  Now that is one wacky family.  It also explains quite a bit about Nate.  The problem was there was a murder and Ethan is the main suspect.

Now the whole town is just down right creepy.  They are one of the most religious place’s ever and just because someone is off, it makes them evil.  And when there is evil around, you can figure out the type of people living there will react.  Ethan is a lover of plants, and is damn good at growing them.  He is closed off and really weird, but his brother is the exact opposite.  Nate is out going and funny as hell, in a way.  This murder might link back to, well I will let you find out when you read the story.  Let’s just say you are in for a big surprise.

It is a very long winded tale that I have to admit didn’t keep my attention like it should have.  I am afraid that I had to take a break from it for a bit.  It has a lot of description and details in it that just didn’t help me along.  It actually took several chapters before I got interested in finding out what else happens.  Other than that this book was a bigger hit with me then the first one was.  I do like the characters quite a bit and can’t wait to see what this author comes up with for the next book.

Blurb: The last time Joël Paquet was in New York City, he nearly died. Too distracted by his problems, he didn’t look when he crossed the street and was nearly made into a pancake by a transport truck in the downtown core. The only saving grace of this trip, other than the cute person working as a living statue who saved him and then took him out for coffee, was the fact that his near-death experience finally gave him the courage to come out as trans.

Five years later, Joël Paquet is one of the most in-demand horror writers in North America. Going to New York City from his current Montreal home for the Black Markets Horror Con should be exciting, but when he gets an email that uses his birth name, he nearly cancels the trip altogether. The only thing that keeps Joël going is the thought of that living statue who saved his life once before.

Review: This is short and sweet story about a trans writer who despairs when he receives emails using his birth name, rather than his chosen name, Joel. I know, that is horribly explained. The explanation does not actually describe the gravity that this has on Joel, being called his birth name makes him feel vulnerable in a way that seems terrifying.

Joel goes to a convention in New York despite his reservations after receiving emails addressed to Violet. This is his second trip to New York and the first one ended in a near death experience. After his panels have finished he meets the person who had saved him on his last trip who has changed just as much as he has –like him his savior had known what they were on the inside and that most definitely was not a female.

I just feel like I keep screwing up this explanation in an effort to keep this short. This is a well written short which touches wonderfully on the feelings that Joel goes through. This is all about identity but it is also much more. Ultimately, I see this as two people who are coming to terms with how they feel inside before they can come to terms with what they feel for each other. I find it absolutely intriguing that both MCs are trans, this is definitely a first for me, though in the end trans or cis doesn’t matter for my actual love of the characters themselves.

In the end, I suppose that Different Names for the Same Thing is truly more than accurate.

As Conor McLeish’s fortieth birthday approaches, the life he’s always dreamed of has finally taken shape. He has a steady day job, a debut novel, and Will, his Buddhist boyfriend of nearly a decade. He should be happy. The trouble is, Conor wouldn’t know happy if it smiled, winked, and offered to buy him a drink. With a hard-earned penchant for self-sabotage and an unfortunate Jameson habit, Conor frequently finds a way to disappoint himself and those he loves.

Solid Ground is a story of personal evolution—how we are each sculpted by the past, carved out of childhood, shaped and molded by what we’ve done and by what’s been done to us. For better or worse, who we are is the unavoidable sum of it all. But how we are, how we choose to love, and whether we stand alone in the end, that—at least in part—is up to us.
