Blurb: Carter Embree has always hoped to be rescued from his productive, tragically boring, and (slightly) ethically compromised life. But when an urchin at a grocery store shoves a bundle of fluff into his hands, Carter goes from rescuee to rescuer—and he needs a little help.

Sandy Corrigan, the vet tech who helps ease Carter into the world of dog ownership, first assumes that Carter is a crazy-pants client who just needs to relax. But as Sandy gets a glimpse into the funny, kind, sexy man under Carter’s mild-mannered exterior, he sees that with a little care and feeding, Carter might be Super-Pet Owner—and decent boyfriend material to boot.

But Carter needs to see himself as a hero first. As he says good-bye to his pristine house and hello to carpet treatments and dog walkers, he finds that there really is more to himself than a researching drudge without a backbone. A Carter Embree can rate a Sandy Corrigan. He can be supportive, he can be a hero, he can be a man who stands up for his principles!

He can be the owner of a small dog.

Review: If you ever doubted the fact that Amy Lane can write pure fluff, then Freckles is your proof and you have to read it just to convince yourself. This book is full of fluffy feeling, doggy kisses, and heartfelt puppy love! It should be perfect, right? It wasn’t, but I still liked this book for the lack of drama and for Freckles.

Carter is an attorney in his early 30’s who loves his job but hates his place of employment and his ethically impaired boss. His boring and workaholic life is suddenly turned upside down when a flea-infested fluff ball is thrown in his arms. Carter has never imagined raising a puppy and he has basically no knowledge about it, but Freckles is exactly what he needed. A trip to the local vet clinic gives Carter some peace of mind and puts Sandy in Carter’s path.

Sandy is a 33 years old vet tech who’s going to college to become a veterinarian. Sandy is mostly happy and has a great family, but he yearns for someone to love and share his life with. Sandy’s first impressions of Carter is that he’s a bit of a nut, but Carter’s obvious worry and love for Freckles makes Sandy see him in a different light.

And here starts the cute story of raising a puppy when you have no clue what you’re doing. I love dogs and I’m a proud dog parent myself, but Freckles’s habit of pooping and peeing everywhere kinda cast a shadow on the slow developing feelings between Carter and Sandy. The whole story is so drama free, cute, and tame, that I expected Carter and Sandy to burn the sheets… this girl right here needs some excitement in her books. While there were plenty of moments full of feels and cuddles, the steamy scenes barely made an appearance. I guess I prefer Amy Lane’s angsty books, the ones that rip my heart out and put baseball-sized lumps in my throat. I like books that make me FEEL and the only thing his book made me feel is cuteness overload.

The ending is a tentative HEA which was definitely sweet and our guys deserved it. Freckles is a super-cute holiday read and I definitely recommend it to those who are not fans of Amy Lane’s special brand of angst.

Blurb: PI Jackson Rivers grew up on the mean streets of Del Paso Heights—and he doesn’t trust cops, even though he was one. When the man he thinks of as his brother is accused of killing a police officer in an obviously doctored crime, Jackson will move heaven and earth to keep Kaden and his family safe.

Defense attorney Ellery Cramer grew up with the proverbial silver spoon in his mouth, but that hasn’t stopped him from crushing on street-smart, swaggering Jackson Rivers for the past six years. But when Jackson asks for his help defending Kaden Cameron, Ellery is out of his depth—and not just with guarded, prickly Jackson. Kaden wasn’t just framed, he was framed by crooked cops, and the conspiracy goes higher than Ellery dares reach—and deep into Jackson’s troubled past.

Both men are soon enmeshed in the mystery of who killed the cop in the minimart, and engaged in a race against time to clear Kaden’s name. But when the mystery is solved and the bullets stop flying, they’ll have to deal with their personal complications… and an attraction that’s spiraled out of control.

Review:  I have read a few books by this author and have loved the worlds she creates.  This story is on the wall with me.  I am a reader of m/m only and within the first few paragraphs, you guessed it, sex with a female.  So for me that knocked the book down quite a bit.  I had to skim over most of the story just to get away from the girly parts.  Talk about a disappointment.

Now the mystery was a hit, if not a bit drawn out to the point that I almost lost focus.  The story is full of details, twists and turns, complex and then you get right into the heart of it all.  I have not known that Amy writes mysteries, so I was kind of shocked to find it.  But damn if she didn’t give you a heart stopping story of crime, revenge, dirty cops, murder, and so much more.  That is not to mention the hot sex, but that was only between the guys.

Jackson was one hell of a cop, till a bullet changed his life.  Now he is private investigator who is trying to find out who framed his brother.  His brother is a brother he chose, because let’s face it his real family suck.  Now Ellery is his brother’s lawyer, trying to get him out of a cop killing sentence.  They knew that Kaden had not killed that dirty cop, but they needed to find out who did.  Now Ellery is the exact opposite of Jackson, and I wasn’t too sure if I like him or not.  However he has had the hots for the man for so long and now he gets a chance.  To find out more, well you just have to read it.  It is an action packed story and damn sexy men.

Now I am not really sure if I liked the book or actually hated it, but it sure was quite entertaining.  Once I got past my girly parts section, the story rocked.  I would definitely recommend this story, but I could have done without the females.

Her arrival brings news that the werewolf threat, which has been haunting them for over a year, has finally arrived on their doorstep—and it’s bigger and more frightening than they’d ever imagined.

Cory throws herself into this new battle with everything she’s got—and her men let her do it. Review: Amy Lane is the only author who could play with my heart this way; no matter what she writes, be it vein-slashing angst or light, fluffy romance, Amy’s books never fail to engage my feelings to the max. Gah! Bonfires is so much more than a book! Bonfires is a story about life, with real life characters who deal with real life problems; I know this book is fiction, but it felt like the real deal.

The MCs are both mature characters with families of their own, both in their 40’s with grown kids who learn that happiness comes in all shapes and forms. There was something so real about Aaron and Larx, something so easy to relate to, I couldn’t help but fall in love with them both. Aaron is a deputy sheriff and Larx is a high school principal, they’re both bisexual and both have known love and loss in their lives, even if it was in different contexts. But what I loved the most about them was that they were both amazing fathers who’s love for their children was easy to see.

There’s a lot going on in this book… high school drama (because we deal with a school full of teenagers, DUH!) and Larx’s fight to make ALL kids feel safe and protected; a case of attempted murder that might or might not be a hate crime, a body floating in the lake, and a plot that ties it all together perfectly. Despite the fact that Aaron and Larx’s romance was not the only focus of the entire book, their relationship carried the undertones of maturity and solidity. I was perfectly content with the way their romance was handled; there might not have been fireworks and explosions, but the comforting, everlasting slow burn was fitting for them both.

The secondary characters were outstanding on their own, from the town bitch and resident evil, to the amazing kids like Larx’s daughter Christiana, Aaron’s son Kirby, and Larx’s new ‘adoptee’ Kellan. There’s a secondary romance we got to witness for a very short time, one that’s fragile and vulnerable. I am dying to read more about those two particular characters in the future!!!! I need to read their story like I need air to breathe!

This book was amazing, I can’t recommend it enough!

Review:  I was going through my library when I came across this story.  I can’t believe that I over looked it, because it was a definite fun little book.  The first thing I have to say about this story, is the cover rocked.  That kitten was so damn cute, but the name the guys gave it made me laugh.

Joel is the perfect roommate with a bit of OCD I would say.  He is good at organizing and well he is going to need it with his roommate.  Ian owns the perfect apartment, is a genius, and has no clue about everyday life.  So you add in one guy who is organized with a guy who has no organization and let’s just say the temperature is going to get hot now.

I got a kick out of this but it was a small taste for me.  Although in that small package came a dynamite story with some quirky characters in the mix.  It was fun, cute and downright sassy.  I got a kick out of it and can see myself reading it more than once.

Review: The Granby Knitters Stories is the bundle of Amy Lane’s novellas from the Granby Knitters series. The bundle is a wonderful to read the sweet and exciting storylines woven together and the different characters that the stories focus on. What makes this better is that this series really does blend together well as one book since the timeline between each of the stories flows one after the other.

At the forefront of this is all is the first book, The Winter Courtship Rituals of Fur-Bearing Critters, is alpaca ranch and mill owner Rance Crawford (aka Crawford or Craw) as he meets his good looking, younger neighbor Ben McCutcheon. Craw is a grumpy guy with very few social skills, but he does know how to show his heart through knitting and it is so heartwarming and sweet.

How to Raise an Honest Rabbit moves us onto Craw’s employees, Jeremy and Aiden. Aiden is a local boy who started working at the mill after school and has since found his passion working with wool. Jeremy has a tragic past; he grew up always performing some con or another with his father. But seeing his father’s murder and 2 years in prison has changed Jeremy. The thing is though, despite being happy at the mill for the past 3 years, the developing romantic relationship between him and Aiden scares him witless, especially since he is a good ten years older than Aiden though he has yet to develop that maturity as an adult.

Knitter in his Natural Habitat moves us onto Stanley and Johnny. Both guys are featured in the books before this point. Although we only just met Johnny at the end of Jeremy and Aiden’s story, he is a really interesting and in many ways he is a lot like Jeremy. Stanley on the other hand is a less gruff version of Aiden, where Aiden was a less gruff version of Craw. These guys have a great story – nice and quick to read – but I can’t say anything without giving anything away from previous books!

The final book in the series ties up all the loose ends, mostly to do with Jeremy and Aiden – although Stanley and Johnny are pretty prominent and Ben and Craw make frequent appearances too. This really steps up the danger element introduced in Jeremy and Aiden’s first story and is a really fun way to end the story.

One final note to end on, as I mentioned before with my comparison between Craw, Stanley and Aiden – they are varying degrees of a similar personality – the gruff tough guy. Actually Stanley doesn’t fit in that category so well, but there are elements there. However, the point is, many of the characters have varying degrees of similarity to each other. But I think that works well, because the couples have a wonderful attraction and the chemistry was on point. It also helps because Craw and Stanley, although were fuck buddies, it is clear that they could never be anything more when Ben entered Craw’s life. Whereas it is Craw and Jeremy who have a complex over the age gap between them and their respective lovers, so in some ways you can see Craw’s influence on Jeremy. In the end though, I think it’s clear that all these characters are somehow moved by Craw and he is like the unofficial leader of their little band of knitters.

Review:   At first glance, it seems like this series has come to an end because Tart and Sweet wraps up all the loose ends. Robbie is the one who broke Adam’s heart, the one who’s lack of courage put in motion a series of events that gave us this beautiful series that’s full of fluff and love and rainbow sparkle. As much as I don’t want to see this series end, if it does, I’m left with an overall feeling of happiness and contentment. BUT… Amy Lane is not an author I can predict and I really love it when she proves my assumptions wrong and surprises me in the best possible way.

Robbie has this huge cloud of regret hanging over his head and when he finally decides to be true to himself he realizes he’s not happy and hasn’t been since he broke Adam’s heart with his cowardice. Too many things to be sorry for, so many reasons to believe he deserves to be miserable and unhappy; Robbie has never been one to make risky decisions and has taken the cowardly way in order to keep his homophobic family happy. But all that changes in a split second after a brief dance in the streets along beautiful, free and talented Cy.

Cy is a dancer, a free spirit who does what he loves best and is unapologetic for being who he is. He owns his bisexuality and his effeminate core and is not ashamed of it; Cy is also a beautiful soul who believes Robbie is worthy of forgiveness and sees in Robbie a person worthy of love and trust.

Tart and Sweet is fluffy and bright and full of hope, but in true Amy Lane fashion, it will touch your heart leave you with an emotional hangover. I loved that we got to see every single couple from the previous books, and while this book wasn’t focused 100% on Robbie and Cy, it didn’t feel like they were overlooked in any way. We also found out a little detail about Darrin that changed my hopes of him getting his own book.

If you’re planning on reading this book as a standalone, stop right now and go start at the beginning, otherwise you’ll be lost and confused and won’t get to appreciate this book for what it really is. This is one my favorite series from Amy and I assure you, you’ll not regret reading it.

Review: I’m not a big fan of short stories, but Amy Lane managed to give us the cute moment when Ryan and Scotty meet as well as the utterly adorable moments spent together by the established couple a few months down the road.

Ryan is a formerly straight man who finally finds the spark when he meets Scotty at a party. There’s no hesitation on his part, no arguments and debates about gay versus straight, because the connection he has with Scotty is one he would never and could never question.

Ryan and Scotty are very different from each other, but they’re absolutely perfect together and the glimpses we get throughout their fast-paced, 4 months long relationship are precious, fun, and dirty as hell. Complete with rimming, sex, blowjobs and popping the cherry. Not exactly in that order.

I loved this short story, it was fluffy and sweet and almost cheesy, and such a difference from the angst-laden Amy Lane world, but it was utterly adorable.

Blurb: One year ago, actor Connor Montgomery lost the love of his life to a drunk driver. But what’s worse for Connor is what he still has: a lifetime of secrets born of hiding his relationship from the glare of Hollywood. Unable to let go of the world he and Vinnie shared, Connor films a drunken YouTube confession on the anniversary of Vinnie’s death.

Thankfully, the video was silent—a familiar state for Connor—so his secret is still safe. He needs a fresh start, and a new role on the hit TV show Wolf’s Landing might be just that.

The move to Bluewater Bay may also mean a second chance in the form of his studio-assigned assistant. Noah Dakers sees through Connor’s facades more quickly than Connor could imagine. Noah’s quiet strength and sarcastic companionship offers Connor a chance at love that Hollywood’s closet has never allowed. But to accept it, Connor must let Vinnie go and learn to live again.

Review: I thought I could make it… I was sure this was going to be the very first angst-heavy Amy Lane book where I wasn’t going to cry! I was sure I wasn’t going to shed a tear! Oh how wrong I was; this one hit me late in the book, in the last 20% even, that’s why I never saw it coming. But when it did, it was so painful it simply took my breath away… yes there were tears and real crying, and my heart simply HURT!

We know from the blurb that Connor lost the love of his life, his best friend and partner Vinnie, to a drunk driver. They were each other’s everything in private, but nobody knew that, not Vinnie’s family, not their friends, not the fans and public in general. Connor is still grieving a year after Vinnie’s death, only nobody really knows just how deep his pain runs, how utterly broken he is after losing Vinnie, and his grieving process is stunted by the fact that it’s all done in private; how can he openly and honestly grieve the way he’s supposed to when his whole life is a big dark secret?

After drunkenly recording a video on the anniversary of Vinnie’s death and uploading it on youtube, his agent and friend thinks a change of scenery will be the best thing for Connor, and so Connor moves to Bluewater Bay where he starts his new role in Wolf’s Landing. His driver Noah is a bright spot in Connor’s dark life, and they quickly become good friends. Noah can see through the facade, can see the real Connor, and he likes and wants what he sees. But before they can be together Connor has to grieve properly and throughout the grieving process we learn that Vinnie wasn’t as perfect as he seemed. Connor was Vinnie’s rock who supported him through two trips to rehab, who stayed in the closet and hid their relationship from the world because Vinnie wasn’t strong enough to come out, who forgave Vinnie’s many infidelities. The only thing Connor can’t forgive is that Vinnie left him and will never be back again.

At first I thought this wasn’t as painful as it could be, taking into consideration Connor is the narrator of this story. We get to know Connor real well, we get to form a bond with him and hurt for him, because the writing is raw, honest and blunt. I loved Noah as a character, but I absolute adored how Connor saw him through his own eyes. Noah was everything Connor needed, he became the reason Connor overcame his grief and was able to take the brave steps of showing the world the truth about himself. It took a long time for Connor and Noah to get to solid ground when it comes to their feelings for one another and it was totally understandable considering the circumstances, but their physical relationship was smoking hot! Noah is dominant and intense, exactly what Connor needs and wants, so the sex is full of dirty talk, intense and passionate. Perfect!

There are many things I loved about this book, including the secondary characters (Vinnie’s family and Noah’s family), but there was also one thing that didn’t sit well with me. I thought it took Connor too long to get over Vinnie and show Noah he truly loves him. It took literally most of the book for him to let Vinnie go and while I understood it, I didn’t like it. I needed more of Noah and Connor as an established couple, I needed to see them completely together for more than just a couple of chapters.

This book is beautiful but full of sharp edges that will cut you open and will make you bleed. But it’s also hopeful and real. Recommended!

Blurb: Ezra Kellerman flew across the country to see if he had another chance with the man he let slip through his fingers. He didn’t. Rico has moved on, but he doesn’t just leave his ex high and dry. Instead Rico entrusts his family and friends with Ezra’s care. Ezra, confused, hurt, and lost, clings to Rico’s cousin and his boyfriend as the lifelines they are – but their friend, Miguel, is another story.

Miguel Rodriguez had great plans and ambition – but a hearty dose of real life crushed those flat. When Miguel finds himself partially in charge of the befuddled, dreamy, healing Ezra, he’s pretty resentful at first. But Ezra’s placid nature and sincere wonder at the simple life Miguel has taken for granted begin to soften Miguel’s hardened shell. Miguel starts to notice that Ezra isn’t just amazingly sweet – he’s achingly beautiful as well.

Suddenly Miguel is fending off every single man on the planet to give Ezra room to get over Rico – while fighting a burning suspicion that the best thing to help Ezra get over his broken heart is Miguel.

Review:  Lollipop is the third book in Amy Lane’s Candy Man series. This is not the first book I’ve read by Lane (and that is always a pleasurable experience), but this is the first time I’ve heard her book in audio form. Let me put it this way, does the word ear-gasm mean anything to you?

Even though this is part of a series, you can read/hear it as a standalone book, but honestly I think the experience would be much better after listening to the first 2 books. Needless to say, I want to get the 2 previous books and I’m ravenous for what will surely be the 4th book in the series which was hinted right at the end.

The narration by Philip Alces is an absolute joy to read, it certainly made 9 hours easy to listen to. He provides a wonderfully husky narration, some very inoffensive Latino accents and the sex scene… I think I need a cold shower, some of the orgasms felt like borderline porn! Needless to say, very enjoyable and one of the best audio narrators I’ve heard among MM books.

The story follows Ezra and Miguel. From what I’ve heard in the story itself, both these guys make some sort of appearance in the previous 2 books but for the better of their own charming story, they did not fare well. Ezra, unable to mentally handle his overbearing father, leaves New York to go cross-country for Sacramento – where his ex-boyfriend now lives with his new partner.

But when Ezra gets there, a very broken man who seems to cry at the drop of a hat, it has been Miguel who has been his appointed babysitter. It seems a bit mean at first but in the end it works out. Miguel shows Ezra everything that life, family, friends and work should be and turns Ezra’s life into joy. Ezra also seems to have a similar effect on Miguel’s life, providing some much-needed love and joy just for Miguel.

The sex scenes are hot. There are some interesting phrases that were used like “kissing him, cum breath and all”, but nevertheless these are some very hot and very explicit sex scenes, which just matches the hot sexual tension between the guys when they are not in bed. However, the time leading up to and between the hot sex scenes is incredibly sweet.

These guys are very unsure about romance, their history in the previous books of the series tell us that much. Yet, it is incredibly cute how Miguel thinks of Ezra as a cute kitten and Ezra sees Miguel as a cute little puppy. It really lends to the sugary sweetness theme of the book. In terms of their dynamic, though, I find it a tad odd that Miguel calls Ezra “papi” but clearly it is Miguel that takes control in the relationship – I’ve always thought using the word “papi” or “daddy” in this type of relationship has to do with control/domination, but I could be wrong.

What more can I say? I loved this audio book. It is a sweet and well paced story. It made a day in the office much less dreary and loved every moment of Ezra and Miguel’s story. I also enjoyed the little bit of spiritual/mysticism – I’m not sure what to call it – that comes in at the end.

I was only provided with a tantalizing sample and now I really, really do need to go back to the first 2 books.

One year ago, actor Connor Montgomery lost the love of his life to a drunk driver.

Blurb: Sometimes the best thing you can get for Christmas is knowing what you really want.

Rusty Baker is a blond, rich, entitled football player in a high school full of them – just the type of oblivious jock all the bullied kids hate. And he might have stayed that way except he develops a friendship with out-and-proud Oliver Campbell from the wrong side of the tracks. Rusty thinks the friendship is just pity – Oliver is very bright, and Rusty is very not – but then Oliver kisses him good-bye when Rusty leaves for college, and Rusty is forced to rethink everything he knows about himself.

But even Rusty’s newfound awareness can’t help him survive a semester at Berkeley. He returns home for Thanksgiving break clinging to the one thing he knows to be true: Oliver Campbell is the best thing that’s ever happened to him.

Rusty’s parents disagree, and Rusty finds himself homeless for the holidays. Oliver may not have much money, but he’s got something Rusty has never known: true family.

With their help and Oliver’s love, Rusty comes to realize that he may have failed college, but he’ll pass real life with flying rainbow colors.

Review: I had not had the chance to read this story so when I was given the audible I wasn’t sure what to expect from it. I have never really been into teenagers finding love so it was a bit different to me. However I realized that Christmas Kitsch is probably one of my favorite love stories from this side. I also never realized how much I want to just knock some sense into Rusty’s parents.

Nick brought these boys and their families alive for me and I was fascinated by it. He gave them each a distinctive tone that you can tell who each character is and I loved it. It made me want to listen to it more than just once and that was a big hit for me. It was told with a flair that had me wanting more. He made Rusty’s voice perfect. You can feel everything Rusty is feeling while telling his story.

Rusty is a sweet kid who wasn’t like many other rich kids you come across. He might be spoiled in some ways but it didn’t change him into one of those types. He definitely has a lot of heart but he doesn’t really come off as brainless as he thinks. He might just be a bit slow picking up some things. When Oliver starts school he takes him under his wing and helps him. As Oliver is helping him with his school work.

When he realizes that there is more than just friendship he is about shocked. Here he was sleeping with girls and he is attracted to Oliver. One kiss right before Thanksgivings gets him kicked out of his home. Oliver’s family takes him in and shows him how a family should be.

Oliver is a cute little Hispanic boy who is very out and proud. He shows up at school and takes one look at Rusty. These two hit it off, even when the homophobic asshats around them are well asses. These two start a friendship that is strong and turns into something more. Rusty’s only support from his family is his little sister, whereas Oliver’s family is very warm and friendly. I love how you can see the difference and wish that it was more out in the world. Nick definitely did a number with this story. He made me fall in love even more.

I think my favorite moment for this story was their first kiss. So sweet and tender, Rusty is confused but turned on. He doesn’t react like one would think from a guy who didn’t know he liked other guys. He is definitely Oliver’s. The second would be how Oliver and his father were going to come down and kidnap Rusty when Rusty wasn’t doing well at school. It showed me another side to a parent who stands by their family.

I want Oliver’s’ family that is for sure. The story was perfectly pitched although I wish it was told a bit faster for me. I want to get to the sexy parts, so that was just me. It had the right amount of feelings in it that made it more entertaining. The story itself was perfect and there was so much detail that it had me feeling like I was right there with them. Although I did look a bit strange with my pissed off look about Rusty’s parents.

This was the perfect Christmas story and I look forward to not only reading more by this author but listening to her stories.

I would definitely recommend this book to others. It was a hit with me.
