Where There’s Smoke

(Panopolis 01)
by

Cari Z.

Panopolis is a rough place to be an average Joe. I came here looking for adventure and excitement, but nobody cares about one more normal guy in a city filled with super-powered heroes. The closest I’ve come to glory is working in a bank that villains often rob.

But then I maybe accidentally-on-purpose helped a villain escape the hero who was trying to save the day. Imagine my shock when, a week later, that villain asked me out for coffee. One date turned into more, and now I’m head over heels in love with Raul.

Falling in love with the guy dubbed the Mad Bombardier isn’t without its downsides, though. I’ve had to deal with near-death encounters with other villains, awkwardly flirtatious heroes who won’t take no for an answer, and a lover I’m not sure I can trust. It’s getting to the point where I know I’ll have to make a choice: side with the heroes, or stand fast by my villain.

Either way, I think my days as a normal guy are over.

Blurb: There’s no leverage like seduction…until love takes a bite of his plans.

As the Indiana Jones of historical erotica, there is no document existing—or just rumored to exist—Adin Tredeger can’t unearth. Why he would risk the biggest coup of his career to join the mile-high club is beyond him. But the disarming, dark-eyed man who somehow enters Adin’s locked airplane washroom has him completely nude and coming apart. All without a whimper of protest.

From that moment, Adin and Donte Fedelta engage in an international battle of wit and cunning. The prize—a priceless, 500-year-old journal with illustrations so erotic it could make the Marquis de Sade blush.

Yet Donte’s desire for the journal goes far beyond simple possession. The undead nobleman wrote it. And he’s not above using every trick in his otherworldly arsenal—including seduction—to get it back.

Chemistry draws them together even as fortune tugs them apart. But when a third-party joins the chase, they must unite to fight an enemy with a deadly goal—to erase Donte from history.

This book is a rerelease of a previously published book, with substantial rewrites.

Review: Intense at times this book takes you on a journey following Adin as he reads parts of a 500-year-old manuscript, meets a sexy vampire, and has said manuscript stolen from him by an unknown party only to be continuously threatened by others who believe he still has it. I loved the parts of the manuscript he read they seemed to show just how much Donte loved his lover even though he couldn’t be with him.

The chemistry between Donte and Adin was smoldering and the passion even hotter. While it was a very well written book, I found it hard to believe that after meeting Donte and learning he was a vampire that Adin was shocked when he came face to face with another vampire. Did he honestly believe that Donte, 500 years old and the writer and illustrator of the manuscript, was the only vampire?

I thought it was sweet how Donte wanted to protect Adin from harm even though at the beginning he told Adin he had no humanity after being turned. Good read.

Blurb: A hunter should never fall for his prey.

Still nursing his latest post-mission hangover, bounty hunter Theseus jumps at a high-paying, high-risk job that sounds ridiculously easy. Yet from the moment he nabs the alleged supersoldier with sedative gas, nothing is as it seems.

On the run from the facility where he was created and raised, Taur is desperate to locate his genetically engineered brothers and sisters. To rescue them—and himself—from slavery. Waking aboard Theseus’s ship, his fury is tempered by curiosity about his captor.

Despite his doubts about his prisoner, Theseus figures it’d be risky to let Taur go—until they’re thrown together by a shared betrayal. They declare a tentative truce as they flee from a shadowy and immensely powerful organization that will stop at nothing to find them.

But as they wrestle with their growing feelings for each other, Taur and Theseus face an even greater danger. A lethal threat lurking inside Taur’s own body, waiting to explode…

A story set in the Line and Orbit world.

Review: Taur is on the run from people who want him, dead or alive, it doesn’t matter which. Theseus is the one hunting him. From the start, there are questions Theseus has about the hunt. Things are not right. But it’s not until the people after Taur also try to Theseus instead of paying him that he really knows he shouldn’t have taken the contract.

Theseus is a hunter, or gun for hire. He goes from job to job. He has had one serious relationship that ended because he held on to tightly, afraid of losing another person in his life. When he meets Taur, even though he is a bounty he still feels bad about turning him in. After they are both betrayed the two are on the run together and Theseus cannot help being attracted to Taur. Finally, he gives in, and what started out as just some fun, becomes something more.

Taur was made for violence. He was never taught true emotions. He knows how to protect himself and to kill. When he and Theseus start getting closer he is confused at first. But wants more. As they run for their lives Taur slowly learns what its like to matter and care for someone, and what sex is like. He also knows his time may be very limited, since the people after him have a backup plan that could kill him before Taur and Theseus find the answers they are looking for.

The writing is great. The world created is very lush and descriptive. The two main characters are well fleshed out, as well as a few of the secondary characters. This should have been a five-heart story to me. However, it just did not draw me in. I was not invested in the two MCs and I was easily distracted from the book. I just did not connect with either of the MCs or their story. I am sure others will disagree with me, but it just did not do it for me personally.

If you are looking for a space adventure with two tough men, some death and destruction, and a little sex thrown in this may be for you.

Blurb: Colt Easton is easygoing, fun-loving, good with little kids…and he occasionally turns into a beast capable of ripping out a man’s throat. It’s a family secret he’d be more than happy to keep—if there wasn’t a little boy’s life at stake.
A deathbed confession revealed the child could carry Easton blood. The only way Colt can monitor the boy is with a job at his day-care center. The problem? New laws decree that all shifters be tagged. No blood test, no job.
Dr. Jasper Glen is instantly drawn to the outgoing Colt and is certain any child would be safe in the handsome shifter’s care. He ought to know—he’s been studying shifters for years, even invented the blood test that now, to his shame, the government is using against them.
All it takes is a quick vial switch. Except Jasper’s good deed blows the lid off a secret he didn’t even know he was keeping. And triggers a chain of events that makes them all moving targets

Review: This is one amazing story. It is book two in this series and they should be read in order.

I have read many paranormal stories, but this story takes the cake. I have never even heard of their kind of shifters Colt is so sweet and loving plus he is excellent with kids, but his is also a varelse. This means he is a killing machine, or at least that is what he is supposed to be like. That is what I suppose happens when someone puts a label on a person. He wants a job at a day care center, but since the government wanted to keep track of shifters, he figured his chances were not good. He just wanted to take the job so that he could get to know if one of the children was his nephew. To see if the parents were taking good care of the child. So when the day care sent him in to get blood work he knew his odds were bad. What he had not expected was Dr. Jasper Glen.

Glen has always wanted to know everything there was to know about shifters. He had started out as a vet, but then he switched to taking blood from people. He just wanted to find out how to help them, without getting himself into trouble. So when Colt comes in to get his blood taken, Glen is taken back by how accepting Colt is. He offers to help Glen with his research. He also knew that Colt just plain wanted him. He had trouble admitting it, but he wanted Colt too.

The surprise came when he took his own blood and found out that he might be his own personal lab rat. He had shifter blood and it was getting stronger as the days go on by. So were his feelings for Colt. The government was showing up more and more, so when someone demanded him to turn in the nearly extinct raptor he knew he had to destroy it all. Even his own personal notes. All he knew was he had to figure out how to keep him and Colt safe.

This story has a distinct new feeling to me. I really need to go check out this amazing author. I can say this: I will be getting the next book to this series. It was a great book with wonderful characters and I loved the new paranormal world that it has. Although it does show how prejudice works double time. It also shows you how humans fear what they don’t know nor understand. I would definitely be recommending this book. If you love the paranormal worlds, shape-shifters, danger and excitement not to mention to sexy men then this is the books to get.

Blurb: When desire rises, angels will fall. One, by one, by one…

Over the past century, Belphagor has made a name for himself in Heaven’s Demon District as a cardsharp, thief, and charming rogue.

Though the airspirit is content with his own company, he enjoys applying the sweet sting of discipline to a willing backside. Angel, demon, even the occasional human. He’s not particular. Until a hotheaded young firespirit steals his purse—and his heart. Now he’s not sure who owns whom.

A former rent boy and cutpurse from the streets of Raqia, Vasily has never felt safer than in the arms—and at the feet—of the Prince of Tricks. He’s just not sure if Belphagor returns those feelings. There’s only one way to find out, but using a handsome, angelic duke to stir Belphagor’s jealousy backfires on them both.

When the duke frames Vasily for an attempted assassination as part of a revolutionary conspiracy, Belphagor will do whatever it takes to clear his boy’s name and expose the real traitor. Because for the first time in his life, the Prince of Tricks has something to lose.

Review: This was a most refreshing book, the world it was set upon was Heaven itself, though a very intriguing and enticing view, not at all the cliché Heaven we’ve been bored out of our head off. To say I loved it would be accurate yet lacking something. Lacking the fact that this book nearly sent me spinning into fanfic mode, it was so inspiring and so enticing that you couldn’t simply read it without letting your imagination soar wild in this word.

The characters we meet in this wonderful tale are two lovely, albeit completely different from each other, demons. Set in a world where demons are the lowest form of life and angels feel more than entitled, these two characters draw you in an adventure a bit dark, a bit kinky, and way too dangerous from which you don’t want to escape.

Belphagor is a self-made character, strong and cunning, his smarts and wits are what have granted him the title Prince of Tricks. He is also a very dominant creature in bed, his inclinations being a lot on the rough and cruel side. He appears to have no weaknesses…
At least that’s what our second star of the story believes. Vasily, a rent-boy and former thief forewent his life, as he knew it when he met Belphagor. He gave himself to this seemingly uncaring airspirit, even as his heart hurts with the uncertainty that colors this relationship. Being a firespirit and a hothead, he constantly finds himself in peculiar situations until he gets in the worst predicament ever, charged with attempted murder against the very crown. Penalty is immediate death and both Belphagor and Vasily must take a wild journey through intrigues and emotions in order to survive this obstacle. For where Vasily has his life in the line, Belphagor has his heart.

I loved the tale, oh my God a fascinating one. It had action, conspiracy, a well-threaded plot put in a lovely pace that kept you always on your toes and most of all, and this damned relationship that was not just a relationship. Belphagor is a wild creature, a cruel, cruel “master” always goading and humiliating his “sub”, and as for Vasily, well the fact he’s a firespirit should give you a hint or two that while he submits it doesn’t happen easily and it’s always loaded with defiance. It is absolutely fantastic to read and damn well written too. So, you might wonder on the quotes I put for the words “master” and “sub”. It’s the fact that these words are never once worded in this book, though that’s exactly what Belphagor and Vasily are to each other. It’s the fact that there are no labels when it comes to the nature of relationships in this world, except perhaps when it comes to interactions between Angels and Demons. There are still judgments and slurs, but in a kind of different way, that makes it utterly non-Earthly, and that it made this book such a sweet and original read.

I could keep on going on and on about the nature of the dynamic between our protagonists, the fact that there were way too many lovers and non-lovers and m/f scenes and orgies, and sharing of partners, all written gloriously resulting in exquisitely hot and pant-worthy scenes, but I’m going to refrain. Because in the end you have to read it yourself and find the magic of this Hell of a tale. What I can do is recommend that jump through the rabbit-hole, or the Ascend of the stairway to Heaven, or the Fall from the Celestial… Ah, there I go and lose myself again. Damn this book stole my head.

Recommended!

Review: (Awesome cover) Dave Pender is an enforcer for a mob. He is sent on a mission to take down an opposing mobs man and Dave is sure it’s more to it than that since the mod man’s wife and partner isn’t in on it.   He is pretty sure there is some hanky panky going on there and the hit isn’t just a sing to the other mob but the wife also.  As he is about to take out the man, something strange happens and he is stopped, forcing him to go on the run.

I loved this book! Though about halfway through I figured out what was going on with the stranger that kept appearing it was still very fun and twisty and the ending was really a surprise.

I love how this author makes his stories so mysterious and intriguing, yet sweet, and charming too.  However, there is lots of action and hints of violence there is not any blood and gore etc.

So if you’re looking for a story that is fun to read, interesting and intriguing with some twists and turns, no real sex, and a very surprising ending this is for you.

Review:  Imagine standing at the altar, awaiting the arrival of the man you’ve chosen to spend the rest of your life with. Minutes turn to hours and you still stand there alone. Roman Capanelli is heartbroken thinking his fiancé has left him jilted, only to learn that Malik has in fact been kidnapped.

Malik awakes in a cold, dark room, dreaming of Roman only to discover he is truly alone. As the minutes tick by Malik finds comfort and solace in his memories of Roman and plots his escape. As Malik suffers in a cold cellblock of a room, Roman suffers as well, tormented trying to figure out who took his lover, and why. When Malik escapes they think the worst of it is behind them. Until an explosion rocks their world and proves that this is far from over.

Malik has a very dark past, one he’s worked hard to distance himself from. If you can’t trust your family, who can you trust? Gray has gone completely outside of anything he’s ever written, even this books predecessor, and amazed me with his skills at mystery. I actually had to read this book twice. I zipped through it the first time at warp speed to find out first, where was Malik? And then, who did this?! I absolutely loved the relationship that played out between the two ML. Roman is very unsure of where he stands at the start, but as the story progresses he becomes the rock in their relationship providing that steady ground Malik needs to get through this ordeal.

I can’t say enough about Gray’s writing prowess. As an author of m/m fiction I fully admit I’m lacking certain plumbing and knowledge to fully embrace the genre. Gray, however, is not. I think that he brings a little piece of himself into each and every one of his books. The love, passion, sacrifices and uncertainty of these men is evident on each and every page. Just that little something that reels you in and puts you in the mindset of that particular character. It’s magical.

I think it goes without saying that I recommend this book. It is strong as a standalone read, but why not read the first book in this series first, Stranded. Strong gay fictional love stories written by a strong gay man, that is any Andrew Gray book you pick up.

Review: Well, it’s that time of the year when we celebrate Halloween and everything creepy, horrific, and/or haunted. Of course, I’d be reading stories in the spirit of the… dead…? Undead…?

Here we have Jonathan, a paranormal investigator, visiting on a business trip and Lunatic Asylum long closed and out of work. However the owner of the place can’t make use of it in any possible way because of… ghosts. He swears the place is haunted and Jonathan is going to have to prove it with facts.

While everything looks pretty normal around the Asylum things take a drastic change for the worse, or rather chilly, when he steps foot at the morgue. Paranormal activity-check! Creepy factor-check! Conversation with a ghost-check again!

What else is there to happen…?

So my impression was that this is a very decent little creepy story. It could be more, much more, but I suppose that was not the intension. The way the author tried to make a balance out of a dreadful ghost and romance blooming I thing she managed to write a tame sort of ghost story. That’s not to say I didn’t like it, I did, and boy did I enjoy our scary at first ghost Ernie. The way he used his… energy… yeah, that was cool and managed to bring some heat through the chills. My inner freak would have loved the scary factor to have been higher and higher, but don’t you mind me, I’m weird.

For all you who like ghost stories this one is recommended. It also has some logical king of explanation (sort of) on the how’s and why’s of an afterlife. Enjoy!

Review: When I get a short story and the genre is sci-fi I get a bit wary. They are so tricky to accomplish, what with creating a new world and keeping up with your story in such short amount of space. However, this one quite made it and provided me with a most enjoyable read.

The World: Persis, this planet is quite peculiar. Two suns shine in a mostly desert land, aka sand everywhere. There are also periods of times when both suns shine all day and night, hence a Daymonth, and when neither sun shines at all, hence Nightmonth. There are three Cities in this world and the rest of it appears to be desert land with the occasional Oasis in it. These Oases have hostels for the travelers to rest and move on to their destination, which bring us to the core of this story.

Now as a world, I loved this one, so much so that I wouldn’t mind one bit a proper novel set on Persis. The language/voice used from the characters reminds me something akin to fantasy tales, with kings and knights. I liked it, it gave the read a different air, and it took it away completely from any resemblance with Earth.

The Romance: Rik is the grandson of a hosteller and he’s helping his opa for the Daymonth – a period of time when both suns’ shine so bright that makes it impossible to stand under their rays. Stranded there is something Rik doesn’t mind at all, but when Seeker Marc gets stranded, there with him this relatively boring month seems quite exciting suddenly.

And this was lovely. I liked Marc, he is mysterious and dangerous, while quite sensual and protective as well. This character made pay attention and wish for more of him. Rik was nice as well but he didn’t capture my “eye” same way Marc did. Both of them as a pair somehow didn’t quite work for me. I don’t know, another character might have suited Marc better.

The Action: So there was also a bit of suspense here as well. This fact nearly scared me on this books behalf. I mean it’s such a short one, do you really need to add suspense? It worked though, probably because it’s light and in the end when all reveals itself you get that “duh” face about you. It gave the story some spice, made it a bit more fun and funnier.

In the end all I have to say is: I love sci-fi and I loved this one. Do you?

P.S. Dear Author, write a novel about Marc pretty please. He is delicious!

Blurb: A story of modern-day knights, paint-splattered artists and a lightning bolt of attraction that hits hard enough to make a knight think he’s going crazy. And then things get complicated.

The year is now, the place is somewhere like here, but the feeling is very different. Matti Elkin is a modern-day knight and, while he may not have a horse or a suit of shining armor, he’s brave and true, has a sense of duty, and honor a mile wide and a passionate belief in his king.

There’s a war on and the knights are fighting hard, but while on R&R Matti is hit hard with an overwhelming attraction for Jamie, a tall, handsome painter.

Jamie makes his head spin and his cock harden, and has him acting in ways that make him question his own sanity. But when the war takes an appalling turn, they are both thrown into a world of confusion that has them questioning everything they thought they knew.

Review: Matti is a modern-day Knight, fighting for his King and the safety of his country. On a rare day off and at a co-worker’s wedding, Matti meets a painter who rocks his world and has Matti acting in ways he never has before. Jamie is astounded at the attraction he feels for Matti, but he grabs the feelings Matti evokes and embraces the moment. But when the war takes a bad turn Matti discovers that he might never have really known the true Jamie, and Jamie has to convince Matti that he is really the only one who knew the true him. Jamie has no choice but to embrace a duty that he turned away from, but with Matti by his side he can be the person that the country needs while being the man he really is in private.

This is a brilliant story in an alternative world, with two strangers acting on their instant attraction leading to a love that can withstand any shock or surprise. Matti has dedicated his life to his King, he is loyal and fiercely dedicated, as a Knight, he protects the country, and with a war against the Northern invaders, he has little time off. Jamie left his old life behind to become a painter; he loves his life of painting and just wants recognition in the Gallery’s. When the two meet sparks fly and before they part they ensure they will see each other again. With Matti fighting a war their visits are brief and just as they are getting to know each other better disaster strikes and Matti has difficulty in seeing Jamie as the man he fell in love with.

I loved this story, the way that the story was written so the old world values were brought into the modern-day war was brilliant and the attraction between Jamie and Matti seemed to leap off the page. While their relationship started off with a high and while they were happy, they still had things to sort out to become closer and get to know each other better in the short flashes of time they had together. When Jamie’s secret come out I was surprised, there was no hint just a sudden revelation. Matti’s reaction was brilliant and I loved the way he struggled with the revelation but managed to find a way to help and support Jamie in his desperate time of need.

This is a really good storyline which flows smoothly showing a great couple who manage to conduct a relationship even though they are apart for a large amount of time, it also shows us the difficulties they both face as they come to grips with the truth of their situations and the love and support they both offer the other. We only get a little information on the world they live in, but it reminded me of long days past when counties invaded each other for land. We see both Matti and Jamie stepping into roles they aren’t quite comfortable with but with them standing together, they dig deep within themselves and shine.

I recommend this if you love alternative worlds where Knights still roam (in armor-plated vehicles), painters proving to be more than they first seem, hot sex in snatched moments, a love that can stand a shocking revelation and a great cheeky ending.

Blurb: It takes a bloody battle, the death of several of his men, and a near death experience of his own for Afron to see what lies in his heart for Makara. Now the barbarian won’t let anything stand in the way of their destiny — not even the prostitute’s petulant (if half-hearted) refusal to see him.

Review: A fun, fast and quite enjoyable short story Heart of Stars is another take on the “whore finds love” theme, spiced up quite a lot by the era it’s placed upon.

Afron is a barbarian Chieftain. He has for long while visiting Makara, a whore that made an impression to him, yet he can’t bring himself to think more of that, or give the whore anything else but coins.

It does take a brutal battle to wake Afron from his blindness and see that Makara is not a mere infatuation, rather his fated mate. But the last time he visited Makara, Afron was told it indeed would be the last time. Could he have lost his love forever?

Now this was a story I’d surely love to read not in this short “peek a boo”, but in a rather developed novella. The idea is quite enticing, the execution and writing style were great, and the lingering wistfulness that accompanied the end of the story was unexpected. I mostly enjoyed the initial battle, the descriptions of which made me crave for more and more… *sigh*

As it is, if you’re in search for a hot Barbarian wrapped up in the spell of Fate and a sexy rent-boy, this is the story for you. The intimate scenes will make it while worth it. 

Review: This book is part of a series and must be read in order. Lance and Andrew are happily mated, well they would be if people didn’t want Lance dead, but Andrew is still tied to Stephon and Lance is far from happy about that fact. As Lance begins to learn of the political mechanics, he has to wade through, Andrew and his family seeks to support and protect Lance as those who don’t want change, seek to put an end to the pureblood.

A Royal Bind is a great continuation from Pauper Prince. Lance and Andrew have many political maneuvers to endure as they decide what must be done to protect Lance from the assassins; Lance also wants Andrew free from Stephon and just wants to be with his mate. They have many decisions to make because as a pureblood, the only pureblood to be known to live, he is a danger to the vampires rule over the shifters and that is not something that most vampires want and some shifters. They have to be careful of who they trust because enemies may not be enemies and allies might not be allies.

I really enjoyed this second installment of the Changing Moon series, the characters Lance and Andrew still adore and love each other, but now as more people learn of Lance’s bloodlines they begin to learn that there are even more people that they might not be able to trust. Lance is a great character who may not want anything but his mate, but will try to do what is best for everyone, he also shows his backbone more in this one and I was thrilled at his and Andrew’s developing skills. Andrew is an absolute sweetheart and I really love his entire family (well except Uncle Dave).

This isn’t a story where the lines between allies and enemies are clear, you just can’t tell who is really out for Lance and some characters will surprise you, and I have a strong feeling that by the end of the series we will be left reeling as to who the enemy really is. You will love some of the new characters that we finally meet face to face (so to speak) and you begin to have doubts about others but as I said there are no clear lines so you are left guessing. Lance and Andrew’s love is plain to see on every page, as is Lance’s inexperience of the shifter and vampire world and you can only hope that he is being guided by the right people.

I will recommend this to those who love shifters, vampires, paranormal, strong love, hot sex, developing characters, a great story and being left with a desperate hope that the next book will be published soon.

Blurb:   Three years ago, a race of aliens called Narsoreal made contact and gained asylum on Earth. In exchange for technology and medical advancements, the United States government allows the Narsoreal to collect and bond with the country’s “unwanted” citizens. In one city, a Narsoreal bond-matcher has set his sights on a small band of male and female prostitutes in desperate need of salvation. Each of the five has unique needs, but it just might be that there is a Narsoreal ready and willing to meet every one of them.

Renzo’s bio-family life is…complicated. Amongst his chosen-family he’s accepted as bisexual and, just like them, he earns his money on the streets. And, though his mother will take that money, she won’t accept her son or his method of earning what keeps their house and food on their table. The local gang is also sniffing around again, wanting to control his income or maybe just own him. He just never expected his match could change in ways that would satisfy this bi boy’s every fantasy.

Review: This series is centered on an unusual group of friends that consider themselves a family. And an alien race, Nasoreal, that have taken solace on our planet. The aliens travelled light years from their planet to ours because they were gay and thus not allowed to bond on their planet. They are allowed to look for a bond mate among earths unwanted and forgotten members of society in exchange for their knowledge and medicines that can cure most human diseases.

Renzo is a bi-sexual prostitute that works the streets like his friend Shannon did to pay the bills and put food on the table. His mother and sisters are more than happy to take his money, all the while they condemn him and criticize the way he provides it. He learns about Shannon, Derek, Joel, and Ambrosia meeting the Nasoreal and finding mates. Making a life for themselves that doesn’t involve prostitution, abuse, or condemnation from anyone. When he’s invited to Alimund’s home to possibly meet his own match, he jumps at the chance. He has no idea just how willing this Alien race is to find mates, how they will conform to his every fantasy to make him happy.

I love the concept of the world in these stories. It’s so commonplace in our society to put labels on people like ‘unwanted’ and assume they don’t deserve anything. It was such fun to read each installment and see the relationships unfold then grow. My favorite part was Alimund’s key to knowing who was bonded, through the eyes. I’ve always said the eyes are the window to the soul, so I like Jameson’s twist on soul mates in this story. I also liked the transformations that a couple of the aliens took on to please their mate.

Jameson is descriptive not only with the sex (which is hot, steamy, passionate and sometimes corny, but good) but with each character and their story. This series of shorts has a story for everyone… gay, lesbian, bi-sexual and transgender. I’m excited to get my hands on the final copy of The Unwanted, which will contain all 5 parts in one nifty installment! This is a book I will read over, and over, and over again. My favorite Unwanted is still Joel; he’s just too damn cute.

Blurb:  When a man wakes after a plane crash to find himself on a mysterious island where humans and mythical Merfolk live together, is it all just a strange dream? Or does the Bermuda Triangle have more hidden dangers than were ever thought possible?

What’s a guy to do when his world is falling apart? Go on a vacation of a lifetime…

Gabriel “Gabe” Overton has the worst luck. First, he’s caught having an affair with his father’s married business partner and forced to go on an unwanted tropical vacation until the scandal dies down. Then the plane he’s riding in crash lands on a mysterious island in the middle of nowhere.

Saved by a man with fins instead of feet, Gabe must now try to uncover the island’s secrets, all without being killed in the process. Maybe he can figure out just who imbedded a pearl into his forehead and what that has to do with the sea creatures–known as the Merfolk–and discover what the hidden evil on the island has planned for them all before it’s too late.

Review:  A great ‘tail’ of sexy mermen, and their land-based lovers.

Poor shy and gangly Gabe is being sent away to a remote island. Little does he know as his plane crashes, that it’s his destiny to be rescued by a drop-dead gorgeous merman, and in this merfolk tale, a mate is denoted by having a pearl pressed into their forehead.

He encounters a cruel and creepy village leader, and uncovers a deadly truth about him. Escaping from that danger leads him to Paxton, his mer mate, who just happens to be king of the sea.

Gabe even gets involved in preventing a war between the human and merfolk races.

All-in-all, this was a very enjoyable ‘tail’, and Paxton and Gabe make a hot, sexy couple. There is reference to abuse and torture, but nothing explicit.

If you like fantasy, merfolk, and happy endings, this is for you.

Placed under lock and key in the palace by his husbands, Elian begins to discover that the gods of the Kartusians gifted him with a lot more than he could have ever expected.

Review: Well I must admit that there has been quite some imagination put in this story. The author has created a world, a planet called Kardalusia that is inhabited only by men. They society is different from what we’ve seen so far as the Kartusians are meant to form Marriage Groups of four, one would represent the body of the family, another the mind, the third the soul and the last would represent the heart that keeps them all together; the coração. As the God Andalusia has said, the heart will be the most important and cherished of them all, for he is to be the breeder, the one to bind them all. However, with the passing of millennia, things are bound to change and what was once cherished now is looked down upon and somehow scorned. The God in his know it all has given the prophecy that one day, one special coração will come to change it all, not only the status of all coraçãos in the planet, but the planet itself. But as we all know, when one good prophecy is made, a dark one rises to overthrow it.

In all honesty, I kind of liked the idea of this world, and let’s face it; I’m a sucker when it comes to ménage or foursomes. So a world created only for men, not two or three but four, it was fun. A man though being the breeder and having babies, now that was something to cringe about yet that was explained somehow by the magical nature of the Kartusians, as each and every one of them has some level of magic given by the Great Andalusia himself.

However, the story or plot if you will didn’t manage to keep that level of interest for long. I suppose when you create a world you need some space to stretch things out and time to make things stick. There were many mistakes made throughout the story that not only gave way to too much but also in some places contradicted what had previously been told.

When the story starts Elian comes off as a very insecure being. He feels scorned for being only a coração, especially since he has no other attribute that would give him some more purpose. He also has yet to find a Marriage Core and if he doesn’t by the end of the night, he’ll be faced turn himself to prostitution or remain a spinster and care for others. It is like this that we see how awful a coração’s life could be if left unclaimed, since he doesn’t have the choice to choose or keep searching for however long he wants.

But then the impossible happens and he is claimed by the Royal Marriage Core and in a blink of an eye his entire life changes and he becomes King. We also notice some kind of spirit there since he stands up for himself and doesn’t let people step on him just because he’s a coração. However this comes and goes and Elian is at some point intimidating and secure and the next incapable to even speak. He is possessed by the God himself, has been told over and again by the God that he is special, he has powers, he can do whatever he wants in the sphere of magic, but he fails to make use on them except twice and to be honest both those times were not so significant comparing to the life-threatening event in the end which we totally missed because he fainted, hence we don’t know how or why he was saved.

We are also being told in the very beginning that the Marriage Group of the special one would be special. They would be strong enough to help and protect their coração. Again, that got lost during the play of the story. Beside the fact that the marriage group was the royal one there was no real display of strength or powers. I was somehow disappointed by Nevin, he was supposed to be the head King coming from the royal bloodline and the strong one, the leader, but somehow we never saw him leading. In addition, his domineering nature was poorly displayed and in my opinion, the only BDSM-y scene involved was completely lost and unnecessary. Perhaps it was to display the trust Elian had in him, but as I said, it failed to do so. Corbin was the man in between that I never fully understood his purpose or his specialty and last there was Gaige. Now Gaige has the potential to be majestic due to his Zevinxian heritage. He had magic cursing in his blood from the very beginning and the ability to shift. Did we get to see that? No. All that potential lost and in frankly I don’t understand why. What was the point of having this incredible world and not take full advantage of. I know my imagination went wild and I was definitely expecting the powers implied to come crashing in an epic of battles, so I was really disappointed when that didn’t happen.

As for the villain of the story I don’t understand what happened there, Gaige was supposed to have revealed his identity two months prior the main scene when Elian gave birth to the triplets, I expected that they would be onto him by that point so when all chaos broke the only thing that surprised me was the fact that while in previous chapter the Kings talked about it, in the “chaos” chapter it came as new information.

Anyway, as I said previously the story had great potential that was left unexploited. The plot many holes that didn’t help the books case. The bad guy and the final ending scene were almost ludicrous. The giving birth thing was something that had me cringing and my insides churning no matter how much it was justified by magic, it simply didn’t appeal to me. I did love the intimate scenes, well most of them, but in the end I felt like this book needed more time and more work for as it is, it’s lacking.
