Review: This is a very hot, sexy little story that will draw you in. However it definitely was not my type. It comes off way too dark and unbelievable even for a paranormal story. Gods who get betrayed don’t just find another and let it slide so easily.

Xenoskar was a demigod who has lost his edge to do what his god wanted. When he found avatars hiding out on his property he had decided to get what he truly wanted. He had his eye on two of them, but only one pulled at him. He defied his god and knew the consequences might be harsh. But to keep Rin, he would take the chance.

It was too dark for me to even get into, although I did finish the whole story. Twins one still a bit of good and the other had a darker side to him. He chooses the good and the god chooses the bad. I did not much care for this story but it might be something for another.

For me it was missing too much, was too short and just pretty much felt wrong.

Blurb: Can love grow and survive for two men on opposite sides of the deepest of chasm—slavery?

In this world one country has cut itself off, and is closed and mysterious to everyone else. What’s the secret its hiding? Magic? Monsters? No, just the cruel reality of slavery. But inside its borders life goes on as normal, and it competes with the rest of the world at sport just like everyone else, just to prove that it’s the best.

Nicky accepts that, and is happy in his own small, simple life as a gymnastics coach. He accepts it because he’s never known anything else, but he stays as far away from the brutality of slavery as he can, until he’s given a present he doesn’t want and isn’t allowed to refuse.

As for love? Well, he loves his sport, isn’t that enough?

Reader Advisory: This book contains scenes of slavery.

Reviewer: Prime

Review: First off, if you don’t realise immediately that this is alternate reality you might be a tad confused. I think that’s because I was trying to theorise which country it was based on. The second point I need to make, this is about slavery, and I don’t know if it’s just me but because slavery is wrong I find it difficult to read fiction books on the matter. Thirdly, a quick blanket statement that although I liked the book something didn’t particularly reach out and grab me when it came to the plot, I felt it wavered in some places.

However, aside from that this was an enjoyable book.

Nick (or Nicky) is a moral, upstanding sort of bloke in a country that thrives on slavery. When he is gifted a slave he has no choice but to accept the man into his life or they both could suffer consequences. We find out that the slave’s name is Michael, and more than anything I wanted to know more about Michael and his background as we go to know about him more and more. I found my interest flagging as things plodded along and I feel this could have helped.

Michael has an interesting back story (if lacking detail) and he was by far my favourite character in the book. That doesn’t mean that Nick isn’t a great character, because he is and he was a nice development as the book goes along, again though something was just lacking to elevate this into OMG territory.

Review: Darius comes into his powers and realizes he is different. I liked the changing into different animals. It intrigued me.
While the story was interesting I felt there was not enough.

There were a lot of errors in this book, not to mention the changing of points of view. It made for a confusing read at times.

It was an o.k. read.

Review: This is the fourth book in the King’s Command series. Intense story about three men who are destined to be mated together. Prince Konstantin Victorovich, Dragon leader of the west has no desire to be mated to anyone but his lover of 50 years, Mikhail. But when they meet the handsome human, Prince Grigory Krayev, they both change their minds.

Confronting insecurities, a madman bent on delusional dreams of a higher status this book keeps you on the edge of your seat. The fight scenes were intense as well as the scene where Grigory was kidnapped by Mikhail’s father. It broke my heart and pissed me off what the man put Grigory through before he was stopped.

I really loved this story. However there were a few errors in it. People being called the wrong name and misspellings had me rereading several times to make sure I understood who the authors were talking about and what they meant.

Other than that it was great read.

Blurb: Eight years ago, Luke Retter witnessed the brutal murder of his mother and sister at the hands of his demon-possessed father. He survived but lost a hand and an eye. The demon also burned its emblem into his skin, marking him as a cursed. Those who bear this mark are at risk of becoming possessed themselves, so they are monitored and enslaved by the state-run UCIS. Working as a slave is hard, but Luke prefers it to the possibility of being controlled by the demon.

One night, Luke wakes to find his worst nightmare coming true. His father’s demon has returned. In a panic, he runs to the only person who might be able to help: Zack, a cursed who ran away from the state and created an underground community to protect other fugitive curseds. Zack helps him suppress the demon. But the city’s become a time bomb, and Luke’s demon itches to escape.

With the UCIS closing in on Zack’s underground operation and Luke’s demon crafting its own, nefarious plot, Luke realizes that he must take a stand.

Reviewer: Tams

Review: Hideous is a story set in a paranormal world where demon possession runs rampant and anyone that has been touched by or has the potential to become possessed are called Cursed, and they are treated like slaves. Luke Retter is a cursed, the only survivor of a brutal attack on his family when his father was possessed and proceeded to torture and kill Luke’s mother and sister, leaving Luke permanently scarred. Young Luke lost more than just his family, his arm and his eye that day, he lost his soul. The demon that annihilated his family now lives inside Luke.

Zack is also a curse that escaped the states “care” and started an underground railroad of sorts, where he offers protection to other cursed. Luke and Zack cross paths by accident, but it’s Zack that helps Luke keep the demon at bay, for a while at least. The necklace Luke wears seems to protect him from a full on possession, but he can hear the demon in his thoughts and see it when he sleeps. When the evil within finally takes over and shares its true desire with Luke, the young man truly learns the meaning of terror.

Oh but I absolutely loved the concept of this story! A dystopian-esque world where we, society, no longer deny the presence of evil and the possibility of possession. The fact that the demons feed off of fear, it strengthens them. How young Luke escaped and has managed to survive up until now was a mystery, but regardless of how worthless he may feel or think he is, there is someone watching over him in a way.

Not only does he find Zack and the necklace that protects him from the demon, but he eventually finds the strength to fight back. He eventually figures out that disfigured and disgraced, he is still worth it, he still deserves a life and love. When you find someone who truly cares for you they see past all the bullshit and scars and make you a stronger person.
The story definitely skirts the lines between YA and NA with very detailed descriptive of Luke’s various encounters with the demon and what exactly happened when his father was taken over. This was my first book from this author, but it will not be my last. It takes a wicked smart person with a twisted sense of humor to write this kind of story, and I do love a good mystery.

I was reminded a smidge of the currently popular Divergent series while I was reading. Allow me to elaborate. In the divergent series the government will stop at nothing to eradicate the divergent because they are different, they can’t control them. The same could be said for Luke, Zack and the cursed. Much like Tris, Luke goes against the grain and finds a way to beat the odds.

If you are a fan of dystopian, paranormal, mystery and slightly graphic horror-esque stories then you are really going to be impressed with this book.

Review: This was a very hot and intense little story that draws you in. I wasn’t too sure about it at first, but once I got started I couldn’t seem to put the book down. I am still not entirely sure what to truly think about it though. It is a fascinating story of two men that want the same thing, but one of them is a little apprehensive. Although I think the only way it would be perfect if it had been longer with a lot more detail to it. Made the danger last a bit more.

Rain is a sub who has a chance of a long relationship with his perfect Dom. The problem is he is scared to death of going there. However Greg might be the only one who can keep him safe after he realizes he took a few pictures that showed a murder. He was in some deep crap now and the one man he truly wanted was the one man who wanted him back. Now if only he can get over the fears he has.

I had a blast reading this and look forward to reading more by Amber. I was not really into the BDSM in some books, however this one was written perfectly to me. I think this shows what a perfect Dom is like although in my opinion it is some hard stuff. But for this story it was perfect. I had a blast reading it. Although I do wish that it had been longer. It didn’t give me everything that I wanted in the story though. It gave me a great read though.

I would recommend reading this book. When these two men get it together it is a very hot and sexy thing to see.

Review: OH MY GOD!!! What a sick fuck! I recommend having your drink of choice close by because 1.) You will need it and 2.) Once you start you won’t want to stop. Not only did I not move while reading this story, I read it again, and again. It’s a scary place, in Miah’s mind, but it’s also intriguing and had me completely captivated.

Joseph Lance Tonlet, once again, brings his genius creativity and imagination to our tablets with Brothers LaFon. First…please read the author’s warnings before you take this trip into the unknown. If you have triggers better left alone, I would strongly advise you to not go here. This is not a story with rainbows and unicorns. Right now, there is no HEA, not even a HFN. It’s dark, graphic, brutal, and will bring every emotion to the surface. So, what does that leave? A fucking brilliant piece of work.

fanart JLT brothers lafon miahPart 1, Crucial Lessons, is an introduction into the lives of Jeremiah aka Miah, and Alexander aka Alex. Brothers, who have mainly grown up without adult supervision.
The story centers around two brothers, only a year apart, each needing the other desperately. Those needs, however, could not be further apart from the other. Jeremiah, better known as Miah, is a psycho. I can’t think of anything else to call him other than a tormented, troubled, manipulative, psycho bastard. And, I like him, yet hate him. I am pulled to his mind and how it works. He’s smart, very clever, and is always one step ahead. He has my attention, just like I know he would want.

If you are weak, Miah will hate you. Weakness disgusts him. Weakness THRILLS him. He despises the cowardly and timid. He loves the cowardly and timid. He hates his brother…HATES HIM. He loves his brother. He needs his brother, and is miserable without him.

He thrives from his brothers’ fear. To be able to manipulate and control Alex, see his tears, watch him shudder, hear his hiccups, excites Miah. The power he holds makes his cock hard, makes it pulsate and gives him a high only Miah understands. The more afraid Alex is, the better Miah’s orgasm. It’s not about the sex. It’s about the fear and the control he wields.

Somewhere along the way, Alex craves what Miah does to him. He loves to be held by him, in the dark, just the two of them. I can’t help but wonder if he has something similar to Stockholm syndrome. That doesn’t stop him, however, when he is given an opportunity to run.

fanart JLTAt its core, this is a psychological thriller that will keep you on the edge of your seat. Miah is unstable with an obsession that has no bounds. And Alex…love his heart. My heart breaks for him and the torture he has endured at the hands of his brother. He only wants to understand Miah and why he does what he does. But Miah can’t explain, and even if he could, I doubt that he would.

Joseph, cleverly, takes us through events past and present, executing the flow, seamlessly. He takes us back to their childhood, their years together as kids, brother and brother, only there won’t be Tonka trucks and toy rifles. Miah plays with knives, sharp ones, and belts. He commands authority with dominance and control.

Joseph will expose the mind of a boy who can go from loving and gentle caresses, to hurting, brutalizing and even killing within the blink of an eye. He will expose the adult that boy has become, and his obsession that has grown with him. There is no remorse found here. It’s scary as fuck, but addicting. It’s passive/aggressive and hauntingly beautiful.

We have front row seats as Alex steps back into Miah’s world of power and dominance. A world that Miah meticulously controls. A world that Alex cannot comprehend.

But…God help him, the choice is no longer his.

Blurb: Sheriff Lance Beaufort is not going to let trouble into his town, no sir. Tucked away in the California Mountains, Mad Creek has secrets to keep, like the fact that half the town consists of ‘quickened’—dogs who have the ability to become human. Descended on both sides from Border Collies, Lance is as alert a guardian as they come.

Tim Weston is looking for a safe haven. After learning that his boss patented all of Tim’s work on vegetable hybrids in his own name, Tim quit his old job. A client offers him use of her cabin in Mad Creek, and Tim sees a chance for a new start. But the shy gardener has a way of fumbling and sounding like a liar around strangers, particularly gorgeous alpha men like Sheriff Beaufort.

Lance’s hackles are definitely raised by the lanky young stranger. He’s concerned about marijuana growers moving into Mad Creek, and he’s not satisfied with the guy’s story. Lance decides a bit of undercover work is called for. When Tim hits a beautiful black collie with his car and adopts the dog, its love at first sight for both Tim and Lance’s inner dog.

Pretending to be a pet is about to get Sheriff Beaufort in very hot water.

Review: This book was so hilarious, exactly what I’ve come to expect from Eli Easton. But at the same time, she managed to come up with a new concept for shifters, the quickened, and I’m so excited about it.

The quickened are half human and half dog and they come in all breeds, shapes, and sizes. Each quickened exhibits the characteristics of the canine breed that’s part of their DNA, and Eli was so accurate with those characteristics and behaviors, and managed to make it amusing and endearing.

Regular canines can become quickened when the bond they form with their human owner is extremely strong. A loving, friendly relationship with their human gives them the spark they need to be able to shift into humans. This was a very interesting and unique concept.

“Sheriff Blowhard” aka “Sheriff McHotty” aka Sheriff Lance Beaufort is a fourth generation quickened descended on both sides from border collies. He’s very protective and alert and the suspicious behavior of the newly arrived in town Tim Weston, sets off all his alarms.

The interactions between Lance’s dog form, named Chance, and Tim had me smiling happily. But the constant banter between Tim and Lance had me giggling hysterically. Tim gets so flustered around Lance and he tends to ramble…a lot. I found his stuttering and verbal diarrhea endearing and adorable.

The secondary characters were diverse, unique, and interesting. I especially loved when Tim was rambling on about Fred Beagle from the post office; Fred Beagle liked to talk and yip and yap about random things all the time. This tickled my funny boned tremendously because that’s such a specific Beagle behavior. I have a beagle myself and I can totally see her reflected in Fred Beagle.

I also loved Lance’s meddling mother and her constant tries to get Lance to be more relaxed and open with other members of their pack; she never failed to tell Lance exactly what she thought of him “I swear, we should never have let you play with sticks when you were an adolescent. Obviously one got lodged up your behind. Try to socialize, Lance. You might actually enjoy it.”

One of my favorite secondary characters was Roman, a quickened with military background. He’s dark and brooding, but he needs to feel helpful and trusted. I really hope Eli will write a book for Roman and the young SWAT officer he saved.

This book was sweet and funny, a nice light read; definitely recommended.
