Review: Anna Martin has certainly pulled it off, again, with her third installment in the Another Way series, To Say I Love You. I didn’t think I could love the guys any more than I already did, but I was wrong. This is not a standalone book, in case you are new, to this series. Many twist and turns have taken place to get us, Will and Jesse, to the place they are now.
Their journey is hard, sometimes painful, in more ways than one, but their love is absolute. To understand this story, you must read the others. You are doing yourself a big disservice if you do not. As stated in the blurb, Jesse’ mom passes away and leaves his family barely going thru the motions. Jess feels it’s his place to stay with his Dad and sister, a while longer, and help with things around the house. Jess really needs the stability for himself, to be close with his Dad, and Will senses that and supports him. Jesse’ mom held the house and the family together for many years, so missing her presence, and take charge attitude, has left them flailing in the wind. They feel their anchor to life is suddenly gone. Now, they must figure out how to go on without her in their lives. Who takes on the responsibilities she once carried? How will Jesse’ Dad handle these changes?
Jesse works in the Library, as we know, and he has been taking classes to further his education in teaching. He loves his job, makes him feel as though he is adding to the relationship by working, but he takes a leave of absence to be with his Dad. He’s having a hard time accepting his mother’s choice to not tell them she was sick. He needs some time to understand a few things in his life, with Will, and what it all means now. While they are staying at his childhood home, he and Will have to put a hold on their sexual relationship. Not only their sex life but also their Master/sub relationship has taken a backseat due to no privacy. Jesse needs that desperately, it grounds him, gives him clarity, so he is struggling with finding a calm center.
Will really steps up and does everything he can to help Jesse thru this hardship. He offers a lot of support and understanding. He begins to realize that Jesse is struggling, more so than ever, not having their regular sessions. He can be there for him as his partner, but to be his Master, they need a place of their own, without interruptions. Will takes it on his own to find a safe place for the two of them, a place they can be themselves and still be together like they need. Will still needs to work so he goes back thru the week and comes home to Jesse on the weekends. That puts a strain on the relationship, as well, and it isn’t long before some cracks start to show. The green-eyed monster makes an appearance, possibly jeopardizing their established trust.
Anna Martin has stated that she never intended to write a third book in the Another Way series. However, not only the readers were asking for more but also so were Jesse and Will. This book is more laid back than the first two, kind of like tying up some loose ends. The BDSM is not in the forefront of the story, although they still need that desperately. That is a part of them, a very important part that keeps them both stable. They have been together for quite a while now, several years, so they are very established and connected by love, their commitments, and their responsibilities to each other. I thought the author done an incredible job showing them as not only an established couple, but also a couple who still had doubts and insecurities to get thru. The characters were stronger than ever in this novel and we get to see how much they have grown and matured in the years that have been together. Ms. Martin keeps us on our toes, however, by introducing a couple new characters that could have easily upset their balance.
These new characters, however, just emphasized how much their life together is the most important part of them. I love that the author took Jesse, Will thru many obstacles, sometimes, to second guess themselves, only to bring them back to each other, and be stronger for it. Not only do they find their balance, they continue to thrive in their sex life, giving and receiving, and the Master/sub component is stronger than ever. Anna Martin has given us a well told story where you will find yourself glued to the pages, often smiling from ear to ear, sometimes holding your breath in anticipation. She also gives us an ending, one that you must read for yourself, that will delight you and have you throwing your arm up with a…..Hell, Yeah!!!!, Even as I’m writing this I am smiling because I know what it in store for their future. It is a very promising future for Will and Jess.
