Review: This is book five in this series and even though you should read them in order, they can be read alone. This is a really good story that brings things into the open. It shows that when one breaks up instead of just going out and start another relationship right off the bat, they should just date themselves to see what they truly want. It is a bit strange but I did like it.

Hawk wanted his boyfriend to move in with him, but it had backfired. Wanting to apologize for pushing Hawk orders a basket of gifts to give him, but it was sent to him instead. So he decided to take the basket over to Jarred and try to tell him they could go at his pace. However, what he had not expected was to find Jarred in the shower and a lover opening the door. He had been cheated on. He knew then that he would never date again or at least wait to heal from a broken heart.

So he had a weekend to mope around, read a hot erotic book that was in the basket, and think about what he wanted. He did like the barista he saw at the coffee shop he went to but the man who delivered the basket was sexy. So when Joe brings him another gift, he decides to take that as another sign. His best friend Danny kept hitting on Joe and making them laugh. Friends first then maybe the next step.

Joe knew that he would let Hawk set the time but he wanted this man for the rest of his life. He would help this sexy man heal then he would show him how love should be. However, in his life he always stays on track even when he knows that he should stop but he is glad when he kept on going with Hawk.

It is a strange little story but it caught my attention from the moment I opened the book and kept it all the way to the end. Pia has a great gift at telling a story and I am glad to have had the chance to read it. I cannot wait to get my hands on the next story.

Blurb: Despite his past abuse, James has come to terms with his relationship with his Dom and lover Seth. Seth treats James with all the trust and love his sub desires. There is only one thing left to do to make it all complete: Seth needs to put a collar on James.

Review: Whether you are a fan of the Dom/Sub storylines or not, you can’t help but be a fan of James and Seth and their unconventional yet, beautiful love story. If you haven’t read Designs of Desire, you really must before you dive into this short story. It’s meant to be read in order.

Seth is taking James on an impromptu vacation, destination unknown. You see, James and Seth already have the house with the white picket fence the two-car garage, jobs that they love and a wonderful daughter. Seth has even put a ring on it and soon they will add husband to their long list of accomplishments. But any Dom will tell you that in order to seal the deal, you need to put a collar on your Sub as well.

What captures me about this particular series and characters is the love that they have for one another. To spite any kinks and quirks they have that I personally don’t understand, I can see past all of that and recognize the love and commitment they share. James was a broken shell of a man when he met Seth, and it changed both their lives forever. While they are a Dom/Sub relationship, they aren’t necessarily the traditional thought of the afore-mentioned. James challenges Seth, a lot, but he knows his place and when to reel it in. And Seth takes care of James, nurtures, adores, and cares for him like no one else ever could. So, to spite the parts of this story I didn’t really care for, the parts I loved outweighed them.

I definitely recommend this series, remember to read it order. I actually listened to the audible of the first book and it’s one of the rare times I would say not to do that. The narrator wasn’t all that great, and I have hopes that O’Riley and DSP grab a new narrator for the continued stories in the series. Again, though James and Seth are a Dom/Sub relationship, I hesitate to use the tag BDSM because I don’t read them as a traditional BDSM couple. They are very loving and attentive, and the sex, Jesus… Mary… and Joseph… it’s smoking hot!

The Gift by J.C. Skye

Author: J. C. Skye
Genre: Erotic Romance
Length: Short (32 pages)
Published: June 12th, 2014 by Changing Culture Publications
Blurb:  ‘The Gift’ is a steamy collection filled with two very sexy but heart-warming novella gay erotic romance stories that will leave readers emotional and hot.

Kicking off the collection is ‘Mphatso: A Story by Mtumiki’. It takes place in the unique setting of the 1980s outside a rural town called Dedza in Malawi. Told in the first person by a gay American, readers will become captivated by a story of love, passion, and friendship. The narrator travels to Malawi as a 23-year-old US Peace Corps Volunteer to teach in a remote high school. There, he becomes close with one of his students, 20-year-old Mphatso and they share a passionate as well as an intimate relationship that starts at Christmas. Although the American returns to the US the following year, their love lasts through the years.

‘The Hotel Room in Denver’ is a luscious exploration of couple of guys in their 20s who are travailing from Indianapolis to Las Vegas and spend a few steamy nights in a hotel room in Denver. What happens in this hotel room will keep readers drooling from beginning to end. They partake in drugs, tease each other with strip poker, and make passionate love all while curled up together in the room.

Review: ‘Mphatso: A Story by Mtumiki’ is a short about a native African young man who has always felt an attraction to the same-sex, but kept the attraction a secret due to the strict laws forbidding homosexuality in his country. And a teacher that befriends him and eventually becomes his lover, a teacher of sorts. The two are kindred spirits drawn together at a time in their lives when they truly needed one another. Perhaps I should point out, this is a college teacher who is 23, and the character Mphatso is 20. This had SO much potential that it pains me to give this book 1 star. The writing was so disjointed and confusing, coupled with the typos and misspellings that it completely tore apart the final result.

‘The Hotel Room in Denver’ is a short about two gay men that meet in a bar and decide to throw caution to the wind and move to Las Vegas. While on the road, they explore each other, in-depth, and become lovers. Definitely a more sexual and explicit story than the first, but still… the writing was so discombobulated that it took away from the potential of greatness in the end.

One word, Editor!

While the concept for each short was good, the delivery was lacking. The font was huge, comas where there should have been periods, run on sentences. I could go on.

I would like to see these shorts filtered through an editor, or two, and ‘re released because there is potential.
As is now though, I can’t recommend it even if it is free.

Blurb: Sometimes two just isn’t enough…
Thomas Grey was on leave from the military to be at his mother’s side when she died. Her last request would forever change his life. She wanted him to go see the father he never knew.

Abigail Sommers and Eric Riley work on a ranch owned by Thomas Grey’s father. They are an on again/off again couple who can’t seem to make it work.

The attraction between the three is off the charts. But can they make three work, where two wasn’t cutting it?

Review: Tommy promised his mom on her deathbed he would go meet the father he had never met. He had a lot of anger from all the years he and his mom struggled with no help from this man. He never suspected that when he got to his father’s ranch that he would meet two people who would become the most important people in the world to him.

Abi and Eric were in an on again, off again relationship. They knew something was missing but weren’t sure what that was until Tommy arrived. I so enjoyed the journey from heartbreak for Tommy, to finding the missing pieces that would make him whole. So not only was Tommy able to connect with and forgive a father he never knew he found peace and love. I absolutely loved this story. From the very beginning it grabbed a hold of me and pulled me right in. I will definitely be reading more from this author.

Blurb: The second Brenn saw Joey’s image in the magic mirror, he was hooked. The moment he saw him in real life, Brenn knew Joey was going to be his forever. Joey was flirty, and fun, and he had the most gorgeous smile, but then Joey told him he was dying. Though devastated, Brenn didn’t want to give up on Joey, so he offered to look after him and make his last few days as comfortable as possible, but was that going to be enough when all Brenn really wanted was for Joey to live?

Brenn was everything Joey could have wished for; strong, built, and with amazing eyes, and Brenn was in love with him. That would have given Joey something to live for, if it hadn’t been too late. He had about three weeks left, but that didn’t seem to matter to Brenn. Brenn wanted to take him home, and Joey was willing to go with him, but on two conditions. He wanted Brenn to make love to him before he died, but no kissing.

Review: This is book two in this series , but it can be read as a standalone. Usually it gives you an insight into the characters and their world, but in this particular series, it tells you about the mirror. A mirror that shows someone their one true love.

Simon is the keeper of the mirror and he guides the ones who come stumbling in, not sure why but they do and gives them the answers. Brenn is not like anyone I have ever met. He walked into the store and Simon showed him the mirror. It shows him a young man who will be his.

He looks for him, and finds the sexiest man he had ever seen. However, he realizes Joey is in a wheelchair, and then Joey drops the bomb on him. Joey is dying of a disease that no one understood and there was no cure. Brenn decides right then and there that he wanted this man for however long he could have him. He goes to the hospital and brings him home with him. He shows him the love that he has for him and helps him. He loves this man more than anything in the world. But it was tearing him apart to know he only had a few weeks with him.
Joey was falling in love with Brenn but he was so scared. He was scared because he didn’t want to die and he didn’t want to leave Brenn alone. He got so scared one night that he had called his friends to come get him, because he didn’t want to hurt Brenn even more than he already knows he has. What he doesn’t realize is his very first kiss would be the man who can save him. That was the only thing he never let anyone do, he had never been kissed.

This story made me cry more than I have at any other time. I felt the pain that both of these men felt. The pain of losing someone who you love would tear anyone apart, and knowing that Brenn would feel this way when Joey died just about made me lose it. And Joey had been young and vibrant, a lifeguard at one time to find out that he was dying and none of the medicine or treatment would save his life. He had given up and was just waiting, but he looked at life around him like a child at a fair. He still saw goodness in the things around him. He wished that he had Brenn with him before he had made the choice to stop all the treatments, and now he was scared to try again. To know all that would break any ones heart.

I loved this book and I can guarantee that you will too. It gives you two very sexy men who love each other, tenderness, compassion, feisty young men, and a touch of pain, but in the end there is a happiness that will steal your breath. I loved it and cannot wait to get my hands on the next book in this series. It caught my attention from the moment I started reading it and kept it all the way to the end.

Patrolling in the Pacific Ocean, there are problems aboard the USS Ronald Reagan. Newly appointed Lt. Commander Franklin Delano Michaels is sent to rectify the problems between the Marines and the human sailors. When he meets Marine Captain Danegeld Drake, the Dragon shape-shifter in charge of the Marine squadron, there’s an attraction that takes them by surprise.

There are more problems aboard ship than Franklin knows about. A Dragon shifter doctor whose infirmary is being sabotaged. A Dragon/human mating between one of the Marines and a Sailor. A plot against Dragons throughout the military. And a possible build-up of the Voldai, an enemy that almost defeated the allies in the ‘Almost War’. Can the two of them build a future together with all this going on?

Review: The handsome Lt. Commander Franklin Delano Michaels is transferred to USS Ronald Reagan to be Liaison for the Marine dragons on board. Once he arrives, he meets the sexy Marine Captain Danegeld Drake, a dragon shifter. Franklin decides to stay in the dragons quarters so he can determine how best to help figure out who is trying to sabotage the dragon shifters on board. Finding out one of the dragon shifters mates is a human on board the ship and that some of the sailors don’t care for human/dragon couples. Also on board is one of the first dragon doctors and someone is sabotaging the infirmary by destroying equipment, causing a gas leak, and writing graffiti on the walls. They also find out that an old enemy, who once tried to enslave the dragon shifters into joining their military by kidnapping and holding the dragon shifters families hostage is back.

This story was a good read. It kept my attention from beginning to end. Nonstop adventure, intrigue, mystery, drama, and love are all through this wonderfully written book. The intimacy between Dane and Franklin was hot, sexy, and intense. Looking forward to reading more in this series. I highly recommend this book to anyone who likes military shifter stories.
