Blurb: Chef Christian De Guisse can’t trust a man who doesn’t love his food, while Detective Andrew Simmons won’t let any man close who thinks he’s broken—somewhere between these two points, love is possible, but only if they get real.

When Chef Christian De Guisse accidently outs Celebrity Chef Jordan Slayer during a fight in front of The Times entertainment reporter—it only gets Christian ex-boyfriend status and a one-way plane ticket to culinary exile in Oregon. But a fortuitous meeting with Detective Andrew Simmons at the Portland airport keeps Christian and his collection of exotic herbs out of the hands of Homeland Security, starting the chemistry simmering between them. Andy isn’t much of a foodie and for a chef who communicates love through his cooking this may be one hurdle too high…until they’re finally ready to get real.

Review: This is an awesome book. I love the way the characters just seem to work together. L. E. Franks has a very sweet gift at telling stories. Christian had been with Jordon since graduating cooking school until he finds out that Jordon had been cheating on him with a woman. He was so upset that he goes and confronts him only to realize that he had outed him in front of an entertainment reporter for the Times. It gets him fired from there. But to his amazement, Jordon’s business starts going downhill. However, his best friend comes to his apartment and pretty much drags him to Oregon. Telling him that he can start all over and have a new life again.

What he did not expect was to get brought in by Homeland Security right off the plane to Oregon. Now that is a bad sign, however when Detective Andrew Simmons comes in and takes him back to the station he finds himself drawn to this sexy man. The problem was the Andy didn’t appreciate his cooking, or so he thought. Andy had been hurt several years ago and lost his sense of smell and taste. It wasn’t that he didn’t appreciate Chris’s cooking it was just that he could taste it.

At first Andy thinks Chris is trying to fix him, thinking him broken but after some time and a lot of talking realizes he just wants to teach him about what Chris taste. That cooking to him is like a song, or a poem to many. It is his gift and his love. He however wants to show Andy that he loves him for himself. Andy had always feared that starting a relationship would always fail because someone would think he was broke and they wanted to fix him. It takes him time but learns that Chris doesn’t think he is broken and that he is loved.

This is a great story. I love the way the story comes together just right. It is the perfect length and each person comes off so real to you. You can feel the love between them, as well as the fear each of them have. It will catch your attention from the start and will keep it all the way to the end. That is what this story did for me. I cannot wait to read more stories like this from L. E. Franks. I would recommend this tender loving story.

Review: This is a re-release expanded to over twenty thousand words. It was first released in December 2012. I was quite surprised by this story. It was not exactly what I expected but not bad. In fact, I loved it. I do wish that it were a longer story though. I have always loved Caitlin’s stories. She gives you characters that you can fall in love with and this one has a twist to the ending. It was amazing story.

Max is a top-notch surgeon who is starting to burn out. He is getting the shakes, is tired all the time, and just wearing himself down. It is leading the point that his roommate Simon is getting worried. Simon has wanted his roommate from the moment he moved in. He is a Dom, not so much into pain though. He wants Simon and knows that this man needs to let down his control and give it over to someone else. He plans to be that person that Max gives it too.

Now all he has to do is to tell Max about it. He has one more secret but he doesn’t have plans to let that one go. He is in to controlling things, but can he control his own body to not betray his secret. It is until one night of full-blown passion when that secret is let out. Now will Max fear him, or want him even more

This is an amazing story about dominates and submissives. It is also about the trust one places on another. I love this type of story. It brings things forward with certain forbidden thoughts. If you love dominates and submissives, two hot and sexy men, the love felt by others, vampires and control then this is going to be the book for you.

Blurb: Tristan Moreau loves his job as chief administrative officer and personal assistant to Webber Kincaid, President, Chairman, and CEO of Kincaid International. It would be the perfect job… if only he hadn’t fallen in love with his boss as well as the work. After two years, he’s still doing everything in his power to keep his feelings hidden—mostly because he wants to protect the reputation of his famous boss but also because he wants to keep his job.

Webber Kincaid has stayed in the closet, using his best friend and confidante as his beard. Everything in his life was working out just fine until he met Tristan Moreau. Within months, Tristan stole his heart and became his lifeline. But Webber knows the rules of the workplace better than anyone, so he’s kept his distance.

But two years is too long to wonder “what if?” —especially when business takes them to a private Caribbean island. When Tristan and Webber succumb to the tropical heat, their professionalism starts to backslide. It’s a seemingly impossible relationship, making a go at it under the paparazzi’s microscope. It may be the best—or the worst—business decision they ever made.

Review: Tristan Moreau has worked as the personal assistant to the CEO of Kincaid International, Webber Kincaid, for a little over two years. Working closely with the sophisticated, older Kincaid has afforded Tristan a lot of perks, not one of which was falling in love with his boss. He keeps his feelings well hidden, as he knows it can’t end well. Not only is Webber his boss and therefore off-limits, but Tristan is still reeling from his first love that ended badly several years before.

On the surface, Webber Kincaid is happy and successful. He is the CEO of a thriving fortune five hundred company with a loving girlfriend by his side. The truth of the matter is, she is his best friend helping him hide the fact that he’s gay. He fears the backlash from the public as well as his employees and the board that helps run Kindcaid International were his secret to come out. Webber is, in fact, in love with his sexy, shy assistant. Two years are a long time for two men to pine after each other in secret. So Webber takes a chance and sets up a business trip as a guise to get Tristan away from the prying eyes of co-workers, paparazzi and the general population and find out if his feelings are mutual.

Webber and Tristan quickly cross the line between boss/assistant and lovers, at light speed almost. They spend their time in the Caribbean getting to know each other intimately only to return home and have to continue to hide their relationship, at Tristan’s urging. He moves into Webber’s mansion and they set about trying to uncover a scheme that is brewing at Kincaid International. But when Webber is threatened with being ‘outed’ if he doesn’t keep a serious and unlawful infraction at work from coming to light, all bets are off.

I liked the way Cade wrote the two ML in this story. Webber is very sophisticated, successful, and assured; Tristan is brilliant but sort of shy and reserved. And yet, in the bedroom it’s a complete role reversal. It was surprising and sexy all at the same time. I did not, however, connect with the love at light speed aspect to the story. Finn Sterling was a decent narrator. He nailed the commanding presence and confidence in Webber’s voice flawlessly. But he voiced Tristan as very effeminate, which I didn’t really get that personality from him in the words of the story or the description of the character.

There were some issues with the story and the narration, but the time flew by while I was listening, and it kept my attention throughout. While the ending seemed anticlimactic at the time, I’ve since seen there is a sequel available that picks up where this story left off, and I enjoyed this story enough that I will be grabbing a copy of the next book as well.

Review: Lewis is in his first year at university, moving away from home and into a flat at school with five other guys. The new group of friends are a wide variety of personalities, but Lewis is unnervingly drawn to the out and proud Max. Lewis struggles with this attraction as he’s always thought he was straight. He hides his growing feelings well, until Max brings home his current boyfriend, and then Lewis has a hard time hiding the jealousy.

Max either doesn’t notice Lewis’s growing awkwardness around him or is really good at pretending. The two become fast friends, inseparable for the most part, and as Lewis’s feelings for his new best friend become stronger, so does his confusion. A game night morphs into some very heavy petting and Lewis’s feelings are revealed. Lewis is high on emotion and happy, until Max gives him the old ‘let’s just be friends’ speech.

Lewis is hurt, but as much as he wants to be more than friends, he doesn’t want to lose Max as a friend entirely. Lewis continues to explore his newly discovered sexuality at the encouragement of a fellow classmate, and he and Max continue to be friends. When another guy shows a romantic interest in Lewis, Max realizes just how much he wants Lewis all to himself.

Northcote has become one of my favourite authors. She has a smooth, flowing style of writing that captures and conveys emotions that is always fun and fresh. The angst though, I am not a big fan of angst. It’s to be expected given the age of the characters, but it still makes me bang my head against hard surfaces when it presents itself and hinders communication.

That being said, I still thoroughly enjoyed this fast, fun, coming of age story about two young men who became friends before they became lovers. And Northcote provides strong secondary characters in the form of friends and family that add a little something more to this story. Dean was my personal favourite offering to buy the insatiable new lovers some glucose tablets and energy drinks while he was at the store!
If you like adorably sweet loves stories with just that right blend of dirty sexiness, then this is the book for you.

Blurb: Can an alien with no knowledge of humans or concept of sex find lasting love with a human man?

Zak, an alien from the planet Trimmeron, is a member of a race of beings who transform into other species during their years of puberty. It’s customary for the youngsters to be fostered to the world’s native to their new forms, to study and learn about the races that will play an important part in their lives.

When Zak turns into a human, it comes as a surprise to everyone, for only one other before him has ever done so. Nevertheless, he is sent to Earth, a world he views as primitive and barbaric. He arrives with a chip on his shoulder and attitude to spare. He does not believe anyone on Earth can have anything to teach him.

When Zak meets college student Sam he soon discovers he has a lot to learn, not only about humans, but also about himself.

Trapped on an unfamiliar world and in a strange body that seems to have a mind of its own, Zak has no idea what is happening to him, only which Sam seems to be the key to the strange afflictions he is suffering from.

But can an alien find love with a human being?

Review: Zak is an alien confined to earth while as he goes through puberty, as is customary for his people. He is fostered by the only other person of his race to have ever taken on the form of a human during puberty. He’s not at all happy about his circumstance and he’s not the nicest alien at the start. To spite his bad attitude, he makes fast friends with Lucy and Sam.

Sam is an openly gay college student and Lucy is his best friend. Sam is immediately attracted to Zak and all his idiocentricities, even if Zak is brash and standoffish most of the time. When Zak and his foster parents invite Sam to vacation with them, Sam takes a chance and makes his move. Only to be shot down by a completely clueless Zak. Sam goes into self-preservation mode and runs, and then ignores Zak’s attempts to apologize. Sam is hurt and mistakes Zak’s inexperience and naiveté’ for rejection. Zak works hard to convince Sam that he wants to understand the emotions he is feeling and for them to be together. But just when Zak begins to fully comprehend his feelings for Sam, he learns Sam’s secret, and learns the meaning of true love.

I loved the character development throughout this book. Zak is like a newborn baby. He doesn’t completely understand the human language, sarcasm or human emotions. And Sam didn’t think he would ever find someone to truly love him. Their relationship is more downs that ups at the start, there are a lot of twists and turns, but once they find a way to be together there is nothing they won’t do to stay together. Their love story is out of this world. Haha, yes, I made a funny!

I felt like there wasn’t enough time spent explaining or developing Zak’s world. That description of the story seemed rushed and underdeveloped. And Zak went from thinking kissing was ‘disgusting’ to not being able to keep his hands off Sam in a matter of a few pages, not really realistic. That being said, this entire story was unrealistic which was the beauty of it.

Overall, this was a fun sci-fi read taking the hilarity of teenage hormones turning them into an odd coming of age story, with a healthy dose of smexy. The shower scene cracked me up! And then the author gave new meaning to the term ‘Mile High Club’.

Blurb: FBI Special Agent Carlos Perez is undercover on a cruise ship, working to find and stop criminals targeting gay passengers. He’ll only get one chance to crack this case, so he has to stay on task. Normally, that wouldn’t be a problem for the experienced agent, but normally, he wouldn’t be falling in love on the job.

When Stuart “Red” Redmond takes a last-minute vacation over Easter, he’s thrilled to find his sexy coffeehouse regular on the same cruise. For months, he’s been hoping that Carlos would ask him out, but both of them have been too busy working. What better time to have a first date than on a cruise?

What should’ve been smooth sailing on both work and relationship fronts turns to rough waters. Red knows Carlos well enough to poke holes in his cover, and while Carlos trusts Red to keep it under wraps, that knowledge puts him in danger. Then a mysterious Sundae’s Easter basket appears in Carlos’s suite. Are the criminals onto him or is something much stranger in play?

Review: Carlos Perez is an undercover agent on a gay cruise when he runs into, literally, the owner of the local coffee shop he frequents. The two have been innocently flirting with each other for a while now, and Carlos had plans to ask Red out, after he finished this latest assignment.

Stuart Redmond, Red, has been smitten with Carlos for a while. So he considers it fate that he ran into him on the ship’s deck the day they departed. To say the relationship is rocky waters from the start is an understatement. Carlos is secretive, for good reason, but Red mistakes it as a lack of interest. Even after the two take their relationship to the next level, Red doubts Carlos’s sincerity when he says he is interested in being more than just friends.

When Red inadvertently ends up right in the middle of Carlos’s investigation, he will stop at nothing to save his new lover. Will he find Red in time? And when the dust settles, will these two finally get to have that drama free first date?

Short, Sexy and Steamy!! My three favorite colors. There was a lot of story wrapped up in this novella as well. The mystery of who it was that is kidnapping, drugging and violating the passengers was always an underlying threat. And even though I saw the ending coming a mile away, I still enjoyed the journey Dragon took me on to get there. Carlos and Red were intense from the start, definitely sexy. There could have been more attention on the development of their relationship, but this was still a fun read.

Blurb: Duty, honor, propriety…all fall in the face of love.

Captain Hugh Fanshawe returned from the Peninsular War with a leg that no longer works properly, thanks to a French musket ball. Now his fight against Napoleon is reduced to quiet, lonely days compiling paperwork at Horse Guards headquarters.

His evenings are spent dutifully escorting his mother and sister to stifling social engagements, where his lameness renders him an object of pity and distaste. But his orderly, restricted life is thrown into sudden disarray with the arrival of Colonel Theo Lindsay.

Theo is everything Hugh is not—a man of physical perfection and easy yet distinguished address. Surprisingly to Hugh, Theo appears to be interested in making his acquaintance. Lindsay turns out to be a most convivial companion, and Hugh finds great pleasure in his company. Their friendship deepens when they become lovers.

In spite of himself, Hugh falls desperately in love. But when a French spy is suspected at Horse Guards, Hugh discovers nothing is as it seems…and the paper he shuffles from day to day could be the instrument of his lover’s death.

Review: If Jane Austen were to write a gay romance novel.

Hugh Fanshawe returned from the war with an injury that ends most days in agony. The former Captain now works as a paper pusher at the Horse Guards headquarters. He takes care of his mother and sister, but he’s essentially lonely and just going through the motions. His life is mundane but comfortable, that is until he meets Theo Lindsay. Colonial Lindsay is every bit the distinguished gentleman, and soon enough Hugh discovers that they share the same interest, each other.

Secrets abound throughout, whether it be Hugh and Theo and their hidden attraction, or the traitor that has blended into their lives. A sweet, gentle and romantic relationship between the two men quickly blossoms. But Theo is hiding a secret, a secret that could tear the budding twosome apart.

What I loved most about this book was the seemingly genuine style from the time period that has been woven throughout this story. The wording, the phrasing, the clothing and the mannerisms are exactly what I think of for the time. There was the constant underlying threat as well, the possibility of Hugh and Theo being discovered. Two men being together intimately at the time was frowned upon and could suffer severe consequences if discovered. And their influential positions only added to the urgency of keeping the romance secret.

The romance aspect thought was a bit lacking for me. While I appreciated the author staying true to the period piece she was writing, I wanted more details instead of hints and innuendos when Hugh and Theo were in the bedroom. Overall the story kept me intrigued and I was anxious to see how it all came together. I think fans of historical romance will be pleased with this one.

Blurb: Mongrel Trilogy: Book Three

The closing-day flea market at the Marvelous Mechanical Circus always draws a colorful crowd, but salesman Will Marchman doesn’t expect to see a large, elaborate gold wagon on the plaza—especially one called the Spiritorium. The wagon’s exotic looking owner claims he can perform “cleansings and siphonings” via a miracle-working machine housed within. He can supposedly flush the wickedness out of people and places.

The Spiritorium appears in the Mongrel village of Taintwell the next day, setting off a potentially tragic chain of events that begins with a shocking revelation. To make matters worse, Fanule Perfidor, de facto mayor and Will’s lover, has been neglecting to take the tonic that stabilizes his moods. Besieged by his illness, Fan drives Will away. Then Fan’s best friend, vampire Clancy Marrowbone, vanishes, causing a rift between him and his mortal lover. Then Will disappears.

As Fan regains control of his mind, he knows what he must do to save his village and the people most important to him. He must solve the mystery of the Spiritorium and confront a man he’d hoped never to see again.

Review: This is the third book of the Mongrel series. Each book can be read as a standalone but I suggest you read them in order to get the full impact. I hope this isn’t the last, since I would love more and I’d really love Clancy’s and even Elizabeta’s story and more on how the mongrels came to be. (Yes K. Z… this is a hint… Actually, I have nothing against blatantly begging).

Machine is a fitting title as are all of them. I love the titles and covers of these books. The story starts out with the appearance of this strange cart and man. I love the ominous feel of this sort of prologue type page. Then the first chapter fed off the feel and I will say the eerie, ominous feel had my hairs on the back of my neck standing on end.

Fan has taken to actual physically working with his hands again since being the Eminence of Taintwell isn’t enough to keep him busy and he misses the physical labour.
Will is finishing up his season at the mechanical circus and missing Fan.
A strange cart is there with an even stranger man. The man claims to be able to help cleanse or siphon evil.

I loved how Will’s thoughts and feelings revolve around Fan. It is very erotic yet more sensual. I absolutely love the connection between these two, but it’s not so simple. I absolutely love everything about this story from the character’s, the plot, the setting…Everything.
The beginning sucks you in and holds you until the very fabulous end. The story is complete, no leaving you wondering what’s next or hanging. It’s a gripping, mysterious, suspenseful page-turner with sensuous, hot sex spun cleverly within. I loved the old world feel with the steampunk take.

I highly recommend this if you have ever thought of trying some steampunk but wasn’t sure if you’d like it, this is the one to try. (Of course start with book one Mongrel) If you like steampunk, old-world feel, Machines, Vampires, Witches, healers, other paranormal creatures, twists and turns, suspense, mystery, true love, and some moderately hot, sensual mansex this is definitely for you!

Review: I cannot help the fact this novel is amazing. Just as the other one prior, I think it is for those that want to read something new. Shanyn is one of those authors to keep an eye out on. When I started this novel, I found myself fascinated. And now, I am glad I went for it. I would highly recommend this series be read in order.

The more I read about Paul, John, and Beth, the more I fell in love with their characterization. The author cleanly executed the characters and made them living, breathing people. It makes for something so interesting and never lets the reader become bored. The way she writes them makes them seem like they are honest, amazing characters with their flaws just as people do.

The storyline stands out so beautifully, so strongly, it will intrigue the reader. As Paul and John pursue further into their relationship, Beth works on worming her way into their love lives. And it begins to upset them both. Do they understand she wants to be with them? To be a part of the beautiful love they share?

Over all, this novel is beautiful, amazing and then some. I cannot wait to see what she comes up with next. This novel is so worth the money and the time. Go out and get it. You will not regret it. But remember: read this series in order as this is the second book.

Review: In this third instalment of the Triad series, we finally learn the identity of the Demon that took the cubs and has repeatedly attacked the High Moon Pack and it’s variety of magical members.

Cormac has distanced himself from Simon and the pack since the battle with the Triad for fear of losing control of his hunger around them. Gray sends Liam, his pack beta, to check on the centuries old vampire for Simon’s sake. Liam finds the sexy, blonde vampire at a bar all but openly feeding on a human. Taking matters into his own hands, Liam offers himself up for Cormac to feed on, but doesn’t share this with his alpha. The last thing the two men expect is to be drawn to each other.

While Cormac deals with a thirst he hasn’t felt since he was first turned and his attraction to Liam, the two ban together to try to discover the identity of the Triad and a way to kill it. Being in close quarters and spending much of their time together it doesn’t take long for chemistry to ignite. But someone from Cormac’s past is about to make an appearance, and stir up all kinds of trouble. Not just for Cormac, Liam and the pack but for the entire magical race.

Since I had books one –three on audible, from the start I was able to listen to these stories back to back, and they flow together flawlessly like one long book broken into three pieces. With each piece of the story, these various characters have grown closer to discovering the identity of the Triad. Along the way, I’ve become completely invested in each and every one of them. From the youngest Garen who could possibly posses all three forms of magic, to the uncertain and naive Mage Simon who fell in crazy love with the alpha on sight. Gray, the head strong and fearless leader of the High Moon pack, who will stop at nothing to protect his family. Each and every member of his pack is his family.

The inclusion of Cade and Liam intricately into the books as Gray’s lifelong friends, Aunt Maggie, the council members, Rocky who is seemingly weak and insignificant, who grows into a major part of the stories. And Cormac, he is quite possibly my favourite character. Dennison truly brings all these varying characters to life and gives each person their own unique personality and Davis tells their stories so well that you always know who he is portraying at any given time.

I’ve failed to mention the utter sexiness in my previous reviews for this series. From the library to the fireplace to the bedroom, these guys know how to fog up your ear buds! If you haven’t read this series, you must. Especially if you have a penchant for shifter romance.

It’s Complicated

Tucker Springs 07

by

L.A. Witt

After their umpteenth breakup, Brad Sweeney and Jeff Hayden are living apart and starting over from scratch. The morning after a promising first date, they’re more optimistic than ever that they can make it work this time . . . until Jeff’s ex-wife and business partner calls to announce she’s pregnant with Jeff’s baby. Brad’s already competing with a demanding business for Jeff’s time. Now there’s a baby on the way, and worse, he’s afraid Jeff is still carrying a torch for the woman who’s carrying his child.

Jeff is desperately trying to keep his life together, but before he can even get his head around the news that he’s going to be a father, his ex announces that she wants to leave Tucker Springs. Now he either has to take over her role at the shop while ferrying the baby back and forth from Denver, or move the business—and himself—with her.

Brad and Jeff knew reconciliation wouldn’t be easy, but they’re rapidly running out of room for compromise. And sooner or later, something has to give.

It’s Complicated is available NOW from Riptide Publishing.
